it would be fun if we started out with our kids having the chance to show what they have but our ownership has sat on their hands loading up the roster with players who have nothing to prove except to add money to their pockets. we are not going to see anything from our young players this year unless we unload players blocking them by the trade deadline. the leadership has chosen a path of inactivity that is going to slow their development to a crawl and add 2, 3. 4 maybe 5 years to the team's emergence from mediocrity.
ST will take care of some of your rant. Some younger guys just aren't ready. Hopefully trades will bring in one or two.

how is ST going to fix anything? are other teams suddenly going to come calling and take our problems(Hamels, Beltre) away and open up spaces?

You totally discount the fact that's it quite dangerous to some younger players to promote them before they're ready for the big time.

As our team stands today and there isn't a single player who's in our system who absolutely deserves an opportunity to be with the big club.
yes it is dangerous for some but how what other course does the team have? we aren't going to sign players to build around, our young players aren't ready boy we're screwed. and if we continue the course set by JD and the owners we are going to be mediocre for years(3 to 5) waiting for the future to happen. we should have worked harder to shed Hamels and Choo and yes Beltre, added some better pieces instead of Fister, Moore, etc and allow some pieces from the minors like Guzman etc. now next season we start over again building up the rotation etc

We don't over expose our younger guys, even Guzman, by letting them get overwhelmed in the majors if we truly don't think they're ready for the big time. It's that simple.

And no, we're not screwed if they aren't ready in 2018.

You admit that it can be dangerous, if not disastrous, to bring a youngster up and watch his confidence eroded while he's over-matched. We're a lot better off being patient with them and not try and force feed.

IMO, you're putting way too much emphasis in the 2018 season, and it may not be prudent.

i'm not putting too much emphasis on competing in 2018 but i did see 2018 as being important in the team beginning the rebuild by adding 1 or 2 top level veterans. and then when Hamels and probably Beltre leave next off-season you add 1 or 2 more in the areas you know your prospects won't be ready for a while.

That’s not how you rebuild. That’s how you maintain mediocrity.

Beltre leaving moves Gallo to 3rd and allows Guzman to take over at 1st. Hamels, Fister and Moore leaving allows Mendez to move into the rotation and also possibly Jarado, Pulumbo, B. Martin. Calhoun either opens with the team this season or plays in AAA and then comes up late this season or 2019.

You will find out who is ready or not to make the leap. Start from there.

I'm sure JD would rather be doing some wheeling and dealing this off season than this 'sitting on his hands' but he's working within a position of weakness (and budgetary restraints) and not strength and no one FA will get him where he wants to go this year or in the future. Again I say it's his butt on the line. I'm not sure he makes this one out alive.

Personally I'd rather trade for some new owners. :D

Agreed. They’re the ones that need to crap or get off the toilet.

Beltre is in the last year of his contract, Fister signed a 1 year deal, Hamels and Moore will be entering team option years and it is 99% sure the Rangers won't pick up those options

That has nothing to do with 2018 season at this point.

I was thinking that earlier today.

Either Ray Davis and bob Simpson aren’t as rich as we think they are, their business enterprises aren’t going well, or they’re just a bunch of cheap asses.

The last significant move we heard out of those guys was they gave Odor a pony so that he would sign his extension and most people on this board have been wishing Odor would ride that pony out of town ever since.
