I think the Skins website floated that mock draft that had us taking Baker to gauge fan reaction.

I think the one thing Bruce cant have happen, is draft day comes, Cousins is elsewhere. The 13th pick comes and 4 QBs have already been drafted.

If they are going to draft a QB, and it looks like 3 will go in the top ten... I seriously think they are going to trade up. Because if we are drafting a QB, it has to be some one that they can pitch to the fans as a no brainer upgrade over Cousins that will get us over the hump NOW.. not in another 4 years.

Anything less, and you will start to see empty seats, or worse FedEx filled with the other teams jerseys every Sunday.

Mayfield is boom or bust. That's a big risk with an already apathetic fan base. Trading up should be totally out of the question unless Rosen is sitting there, but from what I hear his teammates hate him.

Eveyone says just give Kirk his money, including me, but I just don't see Kirk doing a LTD with us. Hope I'm wrong.

Here is why I don't think a trade up is off the table ( but it should be mind you)

You are correct we already have an apathetic fan base in some areas. And while some will celebrate just the fact that we didn't retain Cousins, the folks that thought we should will be very vocal or just plain put off if they go in the direction of any QB will do. I don't think settling for the 4th or 5th QB drafted will get the kind of fan reaction they would be hoping for unless some one like Darnold or Rosen fell on draft day and we got lucky. They got lucky last year.... some how I don't think they would press their luck again, not at the QB position.

All this to say, if they target a guy and it looks like he is not going to be there at 13, Bruce will trade up.

Oklahoma State QB Mason Rudolph will miss the Senior Bowl due to a left foot sprain.

That's the bad news. The good news is that the injury does not require surgery and will heal with rest. Despite the injury, Rudolph will attend the event for the purposes of taking measurements and conducting team interviews. It's an unfortunate turn of events for a polarizing prospect who conceivably could have shot up boards with a huge week. The 6-foot-5, 230-pounder is tremendous with the deep ball but can maddeningly struggle with accuracy to the intermediate sector of the field. Rudolph was a wildly prolific collegiate quarterback, throwing for 13,618 yards with a 92/26 TD/INT rate on 63.2 percent completions.

sucks , i wanted to see him with some pro coaching under his belt

Texas DT Poona Ford accepted an invitation to the Senior Bowl.

An intriguing late addition by the Senior Bowl, the staff of whom was no doubt swayed by the early rave reviews of Ford at the Shrine Game. The 5-foot-11, 309-pound Ford posted 20.5 TFL over the past three years. Ford
turns his lack of height into an advantage, gaining tremendous leverage on the inside to go with his powerful hands and quick feet. Draft Scout's Dane Bruggler compares him to Pittsburgh Steeler DT Javan Hargrove.

a guy we could look at

Alabama CB/S Minkah Fitzpatrick only played 13 snaps at outside CB in 2017, according to PFF.

Fitzpatrick's draft conversation might be similar to Jalen Ramsey's from a few years ago, certain evaluators considering him at corner, others at safety. The difference is Ramsey made cornerback his home, whereas Fitzpatrick mainly played safety and moved into the box or slot as a third safety. Either way, Fitzpatrick will likely be a top 10 selection

for years and years that you have known me i am always have been against trading up for one guy . the main thing is what if you miss ? remember the days of "trading up for Bradford and sanchez ? or more recently RG3 ?

if you miss you set the franchise back about 3 years . you most likely bankrupt the draft for 2 years and you will have to rely on overpriced FA's to fill the void . while this happens you end up with an old team . then you have what mike shanahan and jay gruden walked into , an old talent-less team

and i think the skins will trade up and the only hope is 1) they cant because the teams above want those qbs or 2) they dont have the fire power

the smart thing is pay above avg qb we have and continue to draft some pieces . our defense needs 6 new pieces to be good the offense about 3-4

ESPN's Mel Kiper projected Wyoming QB Josh Allen to the Browns at No. 1 overall in his first mock draft of the season.

Kiper adds he has moved Allen up to his No. 1 quarterback in his rankings, saying Allen finished the season strongest among the group. More importantly, Kiper adds all of the quarterback prospects have warts, but he tends to side with Allen due to his high ceiling. This will change over the next few months, possibly 10 times. Thankfully next week's Senior Bowl will give us a few answers

WalterFootball.com: 2018 East-West Shrine Game Practice Report

Penn State defensive end Curtis Cothran (6-5, 301) had some nice plays getting penetration into the backfield. He also made some good run fills. Cothran looks like a great fit as a five-technique defensive end in a 3-4 defense. He could be a Day 3 candidate who contributes.

second day this kid was mentioned , he would be worth looking at for us as a rotational guy with upside

Would love to see Marcus Allen in Washington. I see him as a SS type. He is very good in the run game, not sure about the pass game though. He is big and a big hitter.

Oops, sorry ... this was an east/west shrine game thread. My bad.

WalterFootball.com: 2018 East-West Shrine Game Practice Report

  • Wisconsin safety Natrell Jamerson had his second straight good practice. He shows good instincts with the speed to cover a lot of ground. He had a good run fill early in the practice and was consistently getting in good position deep downfield. Jamerson (6-0, 198) could stand to gain some more strength for the NFL, but he has developmental potential as a free safety.
  • The West team does not have a standout group of cornerbacks, but one corner who has earned some praise from team scouts is Arizona's Dane Cruikshank. The 6-foot-1, 206-pounder has excellent size for the position, and he also proves pretty well with athleticism. Cruikshank has been steady in coverage to run routes and prevent separation. In the early portion of the team scrimmage, Cruikshank had an interception on a under thrown pass. He has issues with deep speed, and that could be seen early in practice. For the NFL, he could be a sleeper corner to matchup against big receivers and should be protected from going against smaller speed receivers.
2nd time mention for these 2 as well

WalterFootball.com: 2018 East-West Shrine Game Practice Report

Northern Iowa wide receiver Darius Fountain was the star of the East practice on Tuesday, and on Wednesday, Fountain added another impressive session. He has scouts buzzing across the league. His name is being passed along to scouts, directors, and general managers who aren't in St. Petersburg to check out his tape. Teams split their college scouting staffs between the East-West Shrine and the NFLPA all-star game. Fountain was very good in one-on-ones, showing the quickness, body control, and route-running to get separation from the cornerbacks. He had one drop in the team scrimmage, but sources were also raving about a few catches he made, including a leaping touchdown on a fade route on which he high-pointed the ball perfectly before getting both feet down near the sideline. He made a beautiful over-the-shoulder catch streaking down the sideline to tracking down a deep ball for a score. Fountain has had an excellent week and has definitely push his draft stock up.

another mention for him

  • Most of the time the actual all-star game is barely even an afterthought for scouts, however this East-West Shrine could be the exception as teams think the East has some good defensive line talent to go against a strong offensive line from the West. The East defensive linemen who have shown pro potential this week include, Thomas, Connecticut defensive tackle Folorunso Fatukasi, South Florida nose tackle Deadrin Senat and N.C. State defensive end Kentavius Street. That foursome could all make rosters next fall with rotational contribution potential as rookies.
  • Street (6-2, 287) has speed and athleticism to go with his thick frame. All week, he has performed well in practice with wins in the one-on-ones and in the team scrimmage. Sources say that Street is going to test extremely well in the leadup to the 2018 NFL Draft. He has mid-round potential in a draft class that does not have a lot of early-round edge talent.

some d/lineman for us

Trading up to fill the position of a guy we already have in the building who is borderline elite is ridiculous , with all the holes we have on defense would be a Redskin move. If Kirk is not even willing to discuss, I trade him to the highest bidder of his liking and take that pick, plus ours and go defense. Trade for Alex or sign whoever Minnesota lets go.

I would draft Allen, if there, over rolling with Bridgewater or Bradford.

What a mess.

Iowa State's Joel Lanning was a tackling machine after switching from quarterback to linebacker for his senior year. Lanning has been a tough presence in the tackle box all week. For having made the position change so recently, Lanning has intriguing instincts. The 6-foot-2, 230-pounder has versatile size and looks like an intelligent defender. Lanning could blossom with more development at the pro level.

Wisconsin safety Natrell Jamerson has gotten his hands on a lot of passes this week, and that continued Wednesday afternoon. During the team scrimmage, Jamerson flew over to track down an overthrow in the middle of the field for an interception. He showed good instincts and speed to get over the top on the receiver. In the red zone team scrimmage, Jamerson had a good hit to separate the ball from a receiver to get an incompletion. Jamerson has illustrated good ball skills and the ability to get in position to make plays in coverage throughout the week. He has really helped himself at the East-West Shrine.

3rd day with a mention
