I hear Josh Allen is someone that Elway likes. I really hope we try to do something about our QB situation through FA or pull a trade with someone who wants out or is being shopped. If we go into the draft needing a QB, like Mingo said, Elway will be aggressive and get his guy. I just don't know if we can wait on a QB to develop if we want to win now. I fear a trade up will include multiple 1st round picks. Not sure I am a fan of that.

I've been told the opposite actually. Elway is not looking for another project QB and that is what Allen would be. If he goes the draft he wants the more NFL ready guys like Mayfield, Rosen, and Darnold if he declares. And the way I understand it right now the order on their draft board for QB's is Mayfield, Darnold, Rosen if all 3 declare.

Also sounding more and more like the chance to get Cousins is not going to happen. The Redskins are thinking of putting the Transition Tag on him. Then let other teams set the contract with him and then decide they will match the offer. IF that happens then Mayfield sounds like Option B at the QB position.

I agree with Allen and did not like the report that I heard for the reasons you mentioned. I didn't hear about the transition tag route, but I did read an article earlier today that said we were very high on KC and should make a big push to get him.

That much is true that they do really like Cousins. Again this is where Elway is tired of the QB position being so unsettled. Cousins comes in and you know he is your day 1 starter barring injury. He helps settle the organization a bit and give the players around him confidence that he is going to perform. Which again is why the whole Allen hype to the Broncos makes no sense because he is far from starter ready. He has a high ceiling for sure, which is why he makes sense for a team like the Browns who are a year or two a way from competing, but for the Broncos not so much.

I like Mayfield but, I find it weird that Elway likes a guy that is closer to Tebow which he couldn't wait to dump when he took over. I think Mayfield has alot of flags for NFL. Small could he make throws in NY Chic NE in bad weather? @5 I'd barf.

I'm not sure Mayfield is NFL ready.
Once Georgia went to man coverage in the 2nd half, they engulfed the little dude.

Either way this will probably be Elway's last QB pick.

He looked frazzeled today

I don't like Mayfield at all.

Probably means he is the next Drew Brees, but I don't see it in him at the next level at all.

If we follow up a Paxton Lynch pick with a Baker Mayfield pick I am going to start to get real frustrated.

Also IMO there is no way Denver has a clear cut QB between draft picks they want right now. They may have a front runner but we are in early January. The draft process is just beginning.

From Elway a little insight into current QBs and future QBs.

“I think half of it is what you see on film and the other half is figuring out what kind of guy it is. I think the biggest challenge about playing the position is there is a lot of good football players and a lot of guys that have a ton of talent out there. But again, obviously stepping into that role when you come out of college—in college you’re allowed to be a kid. You come to the NFL and the expectation levels rise, especially if you’re a high pick. You’re expected to be good or show signs of being a very good player early. The other half is how are they going to handle the situation and how are they going to handle the [significance] of being a quarterback in the NFL. That is the biggest part and I say it all the time. Just trying to figure out how these guys can handle the tough times, because there’s going to be tough times. When the world feels like it’s caving in are they going to be able to battle through that and not lose their confidence? Because once somebody loses their confidence at that position…what gets you here is your swagger and your confidence as quarterback. You have a chance to play in the NFL and that’s what gets you here and you can’t be afraid of it. Then all of a sudden if you get in the world and all of a sudden things aren’t going well, the world starts caving in on you and you lose that swagger or you lose that confidence, it’s very, very difficult to get it back. You have to figure out how strong they are, what they believe in and how strong they are, what they are as a quarterback and to be able to battle through that. If they can do that, then they have a chance to have a great, long career. To me, I say it all the time: It’s 50 percent the physical side of it and 50 percent mental side. The heart and finding out what they have inside, that’s the difficult part. Not only at the quarterback position, it’s about every position because it comes down to what’s inside, what’s in that heart, how bad they want it and how great they want to be. If they want to be great football players, they have a chance to be great.”

Either QB or RB. I would say if Darnold and Rosen are already taken, take Barkley with the 5 pick. Josh Allen is NOT gonna be a good NFL QB because he's not really a good college QB. He had a HORRID season this year.

I'm open to everything right now with not a single day off the off-season completed yet.

Open minded here.

One scout says he will be surprised if Allen goes in the top 10. Another says the guy calling the shots in Cleveland loves Josh Allen.

Let the fun begin.

What about his 2016 season when he had a couple NFL quality players around him?

Marino in 1981 threw 37 TDs his junior year and followed that up with just 17 in 82.

Need to really dig into these guys to determine the drop off.

Didn't say that Mayfield is at the top and will continue to stay at the top no matter what. Lots happens in the draft process from here on out. Heck sounds like they might get to coach him at the Senior Bowl. So let's say they get the chance to work with him and he struggles to pick up the offense or against better competition just doesn't look as accurate. Well then Broncos add that to the process. He still has to interview obviously with the team and go through the combine where maybe medical checks reveal something big.

I remember at this point in the year in 2011 Von Miller and Cam Newton were not the top choices for the draft. Just looked at a mock draft from 2011 that was put out in January and Cam Newton went 12th to the Vikings while Von Miller didn't even get picked in the 1st round. Top defensive player was thought to be Da'Quan Bowers at that point. He fell to the 2nd round in part because a medical check at the combine revealed he had a bad knee.

Right now I"ve just been told the Broncos really like Mayfield. Maybe that is a smokescreen, but really the Broncos have been one of the more transparent organizations in the NFL. More info than what should gets leaked it seems like.

I've known a lot of Bronco players drafted by Denver who never heard a word from them prior to the draft.

I'm just saying a lot is going to happen between now and the draft. Players jump, climb, shuffle around... We haven't even begun the brunt of the process right now.

Buckle up and enjoy it. We don't pick #5 often.

Good example is Cam Newton he bounced all around the board when he declared. Von Miller not being in the first rd of a mock is pretty weak though (just saying) because he declared with a top 5 grade. Newton jumped around and proved himself in the offseason process that he truly was a #1 prospect. Guy like DeShaun Watson at this time was considered a top 3 pick throughout the draft process he dropped to where people weren't even sure if he would go in rd 1... A lot of people thought if the Giants passed on him in rd 1 he could fall to rd 2.. Only to have the Texans fall in love with him during his last workout with them and then climb up and draft him afraid to lose him after KC jumped up for Mahomes who the Texans also had ranked high.

2016 was great but he regressed this year and regressed badly. Not a good sign heading into the draft.

He's still got great tools though and that is what NFL teams fall in love with. On the field he played nowhere near a top 10 pick. Tools wise he has elite tools... and that my friends is what the NFL draft is about. Like it or not.
