That's what the word is on why Leach is so willing to leave. IMO it's ego not being in the loop on the AD search but to be fair to him, he has made WSU relevant again regardless of results on the field so he should at least have a strong voice on the matter.

I just think thats funny. Chip obviously did great at Oregon but he crashed and burned in the NFL and this guy was part of the disaster. Before that he coached D line at Oregon for Chip and Marshall before that so now he's the DC at UCLA. Oregon wasn't known for great defense last time I checked even when Chip was there. So this guy being named DC doesn't scare a bit. He's got no history of building a great or good defense. If you guys had lured Jimmy lake from the Huskys I'd be a lot more worried.
Chips a good hire and I think he's going to be very competitive .IF you know anything about what people think of USC and UCLA football programs you know that USC will still get the kids it gets now and Chip will get the UCLA kids and keep some of the kids who might have gone to other PAC school here in so cal. Kids from so cal usually know which school they want to go to way before they start to get recruited.
I thought you were talking about Kelly, but with Pellum there too, it provides a lot of experienced coaching on the defensive side of the ball.

Azz was the DC at both Umass and BC. He did decent jobs at both stops and was cleared out at BC with the HC firing.

As for the NFL stuff, Kelly actually did a good job initially at Philly but his success there was short lived without a Franchise QB. Then off to San Fran where I don't count because any organization who gives their HC one season wasn't really invested in the first place. It's not as if they were a winning club and in one year he took them down to 2 wins. They sucked before he got there...

Anyway, time will tell about how well Kelly's staff recruits in Southern California. If he starts challenging for the South title a lot can change quick.

I don't think he'll repeat what he did at Oregon at UCLA. He was only at Oregon 4 years as HC and by his 4th year, teams were starting to figure out his system.

Now, everyone runs at least some aspect of his system, so it's not as difficult to prepare for as it used to be.

I think he'll definitely make you guys better and I think he'll get you some of the kids that USC doesn't sign rather than seeing them head north or to the Arizona schools. I think the rivalry will get back to where it was in the Donahue years...which would be great, imo.

I don't know, alot programs run a version of it but never quite like Oregon did. And Chip has access now to better all around athletes at UCLA than he ever could at Oregon.

Doesn't matter. The biggest issue teams had with his system was that he was the only one doing it. It was a one off type of game where they were trying to prepare for a system they weren't going to see any other time. It's part of the reason that teams who had more than 1 week to prepare for them tended to do better.

Now, there's lots of film, everyone has seen it, everyone is running and facing some aspect of it. This makes it easier to prepare for.

He'll still have success and UCLA will be better. But I'll be surprised if he can re-create what he did at Oregon.

Could be, I'm just playing devils advocate here because I think Kelly's system could work well with the talent pool UCLA can get. At Oregon all of his top offensive players (jury is still out on Mariota) are specialists in the NFL because of their size. If Kelly can get guys who aren't just fast but normal sized guys I think he could be dangerous. Maybe not recruit 3,000 kick returners but track guys who don't dive to the ground when a 210 LB is coming at them.

Neuheisel was interested in throwing his hat in the ring if Leach left Pullman. You can bet his people are talking to the Ducks as we speak.

Oregon has the $$$$$ to grab Wilcox and Baldwin from Cal. That would be their best move imo.

Yeah....I think if a student or students rush a field they are voiding all safety concerns....
Don't have your students on the field after a game, it's an intense game, with large people involved and emotions are extremely high and tempers can flare...

True. If he would have slugged the guy then thats going to far. But like another article said the player was supposed to be on the field the fan was trespassing.

That's the catch 22. Allowing the students to be apart of the game is why college so is far superior to the NFL, but crap like this can happen. In a perfect world they'd be allowed to rush the field and players could beat the shit out of a fan if it's found out the fan deserved it.

I've been at many many great football games. Lots of upsets. Never rushed a field. Stayed and watched others do so, but wouldn't ever do it myself. It's not acceptable to do so. The stands were built for people to cheer and celebrate in. There is no place for fans on the field.

I've never rushed the field other, did I want to kick every single Husky fans ass who did in 2002, of course. But, to me, that's just a part of the fun of football even though students take it too far.

If the fan is a drunk and running their mouth then to me he get's what he deserves, but if he's just wandering a field and a player walks up and clocks his ass then there is a problem...
