A NBA team will never return to that location. So they will be the sole main tenant that actually pays to play there unlike the WNBA team who gets paid to play there.

I wasnt speaking to the location in my post ... Hansen said he's not quitting and still intends to somehow get the sodo arena built ... if thats the case, the NBA may return

q for you ... you think the upcoming mayoral change, changes anything with regards to preferred arena location?

Hansen's project is dead, he needs a street vacation to fully own all the land in order to build his arena which is where the NHL should be where you can get on and off the freeway, highway, light rail station and bus station in 5 minutes. That is the only reason soccer has succeeded. It is an easy location to get to for fans who 99% of them don't live in Seattle.

Depends on the mayor, if the favorite wins, she will kill anything that involves white people which is this project and Key Arena. If the old mayor somehow wins (he essentially was the only politican who was for it in Seattle) then the project gets greenlighted but most likely the governor steps in and kills it but Seattle's biggest financial campaign backer is against anything in the stadium district. Centurylink Field and Safeco Field both got voted down because of the Port of Seattle but the governor, mayor and King County executive at the time essentially over ruled the public vote by recounting votes enough times to get a 51% majority.

Sweet, Seattle will get a NHL franchise to commemorate their centennial of the cancelled Stanley Cup Finals. Probably will be a flu epidemic in 2019 as well.

I just hope the NHL realize how horrible it is to put a team into such a horrible area for sports.

I'll be the first to admit I don't know a lick about hockey, but that location wasn't good enough for the MLS, NFL, NBA or MLB because attendance is impossible, not sure why the NHL would go against logic and back the group who wants to own a team in Seattle when they choose a location because Tim Leiweke is a corrupt bastard.

All the team logos I posted are playing in arenas that are miles away from their area's "downtown's". Seattle's arena would be no different. The NHL is just an incredibly poorly-run institution and doesn't seem to give a damn about this.

As for Leiweke, I don't know if he's corrupt but he almost single-handedly saved Toronto sports in a matter of months so he'll always have my gratitude.

Agree with you on arena location issues, but the NHL doesn't have much control over the location of the arena, no? Seems like the city council/government and the ownership group largely make that determination.

I would assume they would also need to be added into the Pacific division, so who would move to the Central? Arizona? Or would there be another massive realignment as well?

This is the NHL. I'm sure they'll be added to the Metropolitan Division.

Why does Seattle need to be in a division? I would think having a team or two as an independent just like in college football with Notre Dame and BYU could spice things up. Then a committee could determine who makes the playoffs. Certainly better than the current wild card format, no?

The location of the Seattle arena isn't necessarily bad in terms of since it is perfectly in downtown, but with the accessibility of that location it might as well be in town.

I'm sure Leiweke isn't as big of a corrupt scum bag as he has been through the Seattle process. Maybe it's just part of doing business, and I am massively against their being remodel of the arena there. When the government stepped in and essentially illegally saved the Mariners and Seahawks I didn't care, so I can see both sides.
