My personal time frame when I discuss it, i cant speak for others, is the 5 ring window
Okay so the Ravens are 89-73 outside of the AFC North (and AFC Central for 2001) since 2001. Miami is 82-83 outside of the AFC East. So a difference of 8.5 games over 16.5 seasons.

The Bengals are 79-80-3 in that time frame while the Jets are 80-83

The Browns are 57-105 in that time frame while the Bills are 73-92

Another potentially good thread turned into a Cheater's thread.

During the game last night I was thinking about how many more teams are mailing it in than usual. Not a good look if the NFL wants to reverse their ratings drop.

Anyone think it's related to the whole protest clusterfuck?

Great catch from the West Coast, cause thats exactly a big part of the problem....Eli has always been a leader by example, so asking him to become that vocal guy at this stage is useless.......OBJ is much like T.O. and why TO was let go by so many teams although everyone was aware of his greatness....His other shit just becomes too much to overcome what he is on the field, and no one in the organization has been able to reign him in, it mostly cost Coughlin his job in the opinion of many around here

And if you remember, T.O. really became the T.O. persona when SF lost a lot of vets that had long-standing ties to the dynasty years (Steve Young/Rice/etc.) and he could just push around guys like Jeff Garcia and Mooch.

When you lose the vocal leadership from both the field and the coaches, it's easy to lose halfwits like Owens, Beckham and Jenkins.

No. Probably has something to do with half the leagues superstars out with season ending injuries.

Its an every year thing, Pats fans should be happy and say "Thank You NFL", instead of trying to defend the "strength" of their division

Dont understand

Don't understand what?

There are teams in the NFL that are always in the hunt, year after year. They have owners who hire good people and keep them happy, and don't try to meddle in football decisions. The Patriots and Steelers are like that. Then there are the Browns, who seem to be in a little league all their own.

When a team like the Eagles or Rams comes from nowhere and is suddenly in contention for "best team in the league," it's just dumb luck.

The Pats are fortunate, yes, to be in a division with 3 perennial doormats, but they take advantage of it. This year they lost Edelman, Mitchell and Hightower to injuries and got off to a slow start, but lately they have dominating anyway.

Denver will be back. So will the Cowboys. Maybe not this year, but those remain good football organizations.

The protest shit has hurt the ratings, for sure, but there's little evidence that it's affected the quality of play.

Yeah, injuries have really hurt this year. There aren't enough good quarterbacks to go around anyway, and when you take away guys like Rodgers, Watson and Luck (remember him?) plus Bridgewater and Bradford, Palmer and Winston, who's left to make games competitive?

NFL teams used to "pay for pride" this time of the year. Now, they play for draft picks. Maybe they should take picks away from teams that intentionally tank.

This is for 2010 through 2015 season. I've been too lazy to add last years numbers in there.

For 2010 - 2015 - the following are the AFC division records against teams in the other three AFC divisions.

AFC East: 82-62

AFC North: 75-69

AFC West: 73-71

AFC South: 58-86

Interestingly enough, the AFC East has the best extra-divisional record over that 6 year time period.

Again, let's be fair and take the awesome Pats out the equation.

For 2010-2015, here are the extra-divisional records, EXCLUDING the best team in each division for the given year. e.g. The Pats W/L is taken out for each of the six years while the Bengals is taken out for 2015, but not 2014 (because the Bengals won the North in 2015 but not 2014). This is basically what the Bills, Jets, and Phins (and their counterparts in the other divisions) did over the 6 years of 2010 - 2015.

AFC East: 52-56

AFC North: 50-58

AFC West: 50-58

AFC South: 37-71

Taking out the division leader's record, we see the AFC East is still 1st place and has the BEST RECORD against the other AFC teams than their 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place counterparts. In other words, the Jets, Dolphins and Bills have been better over the last 6 years than the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place teams in the other 3 AFC divisions.

Number don't lie.

Numbers Lie

No division has spent the past 15 seasons with teams as bad as the Jets/Dolphins and Bills

Not fact, they suffer because this is a QB driven league, and you cant name one from all those teams combined that hasnt sucked in almost 2 decades

I'd throw the Colts and Browns into that group too. You can see guys not going 100% on every play and that usually means the coach has lost the locker room. I'd hate to fire a guy after only two years, but sometimes it just doesn't look like it is going to work out.
