I don't. It's just a more expensive stupid decision. We see it all the time with college athletes. Heck, we see it all of the time life. Otherwise good, seemingly intelligent people make 1 stupid decision and it alters their life forever.

And what about the other 2? Did they also act out of a sense of entitlement? Or just LiAngelo?
Expensive? From my perspective I doubt money is the concern. How about losing his freedom? 3-10 years is a lot of time lost for a basketball player - and away from his family.

What do we know about the other two? Not much of anything so how can we debate anything about their reasons for doing something like this? But the Balls, yes we know a plenty thanks to pops.

Ha ha. I'm going to see about getting you a steam shovel because that hole of yours you've been digging has gotta be getting pretty deep now judging by the furious pace you've been keeping.

I think folks might be reading a bit too much into this LiAngelo situation. He's a dumbass kid who did a dumbass thing. Doesn't make him a bad kid, doesn't mean his parents did a bad job raising him.

Kids do stupid stuff all of the time. The problem for him is that he is a high profile kid with a high profile family and a loudmouth of a father who keeps drawing as much attention as possible.

For all any of us know, he may have acted out of a feeling that the rules don't apply, but I think it's more likely that it was a spur of the moment stupid decision. There were 2 other players involved as well, who are far more important to UCLA's chances than LiAngelo, but everyone is focused on him.

Agreed 100%.

Be real here. How many of you didn't do anything that could have gotten you arrested at 18-20?

I sure as hell did. Hell, I almost got arrested in Cancun on spring break one year for messing around with a girl on the beach. That was scary as hell.

We were both mostly naked and 2 cops snuck up on us. I didn't have my ID with me, and the cops took my clothes aside from my boxers and told me to get my ID from my hotel room. They waited for me on the beach. Of course I never returned. Lost my favorite pair of basketball shorts that night. I thought that was preferable to the potential of Mexican jail.

They were saying yesterday on ESPN that the players would get something like 20 days of house arrest in their Chinese hotel then they would be banned from China for life.

I am sure the US embassy had some impact on the sentence. It is fair, IMO. Strong enough to teach the lesson, but it also isn't going to ruin the kids' lives.

Shit, I almost got arrested yesterday.

Haven't driven my beater car in About 8 months.

Took the title and plates to phoenix ADot to get it switched over from California.

They give you a clean title and plates right on the spot. But, they only give you 1.

I forgot to take the California plate off the front and got pulled over quickly...lol

Dude's first question was : So, which plate is the stolen one?

Expensive doesn't just mean money. It's still 1 stupid decision. We know about Lavar, but what do we really know about any of his kids? Is there evidence that any of them have done anything like this before? Any evidence of any of them acting entitled at all?

Just as Lonzo is being over analyzed because of his fathers mouth, what LiAngelo did is also being over analyzed.

Not saying that what he did isn't a big deal, but to claim it's because he thinks the rules don't apply to him when there doesn't seem to be any evidence to suggest that he's ever acted that way before, seems like it's more about Lavar than LiAngelo.

They take every opportunity to pull people over - and that's how it starts. I try to tell my son that. Stay legal so when (not if) you're pulled over the most you'll get is a ticket but you'll be back on your merry way.

If we were talking about ordinary kids then I would agree with your points. But we're talking about a kid who has means to pretty much buy whatever he wants. He has a plethora of opportunity at his feet (in terms of attending a good college & pursuing a basketball career). When you have money (probably had it in his pocket at the time) why take all of those unnecessary risks? Most kids steal because they don't have means to buy what they're stealing. Whether it be food or clothes or other items. In my opinion the reasoning is very different in those two cases. But, I think when things like this are swept under the rug because of their status or privilege it only makes matters worse & sets them up to continue to push the envelope.

I hope that they learn a lesson from this ordeal, but won't be surprised if the light consequence only encourages him to continue down the wrong path of influence.

So is LiAngelo on a scholarship at UCLA? If so aren't there rules in place in relation to trouble like this and the offered scholarship? I thought any type of trouble with the law is an immediate forfeiture of the scholarship & the possibility of being kicked out of school.

Why do kids or anyone with or without means take unnecessary risks? Because they're human and make mistakes. We see kids risk scholarships and potential professional careers all of the time. Both with and without means.

Heck, we see athletes who are already enjoying professional careers do stupid things to jeopardize their careers all of the time. Doing stupid things isn't dependent on what ones social standing is. All it takes is one lapse in judgement to turn ones own life upside down.

Pretty sure Wynona Rider had the money to purchase whatever it was she got caught shoplifting a few years ago, yet she did it anyway.

See, I disagree. I used to run a program for first time juvenile offenders and my experience was that their reasons ranged from not having the money at the time to peer pressure to the thrill of trying to get away with something/see if they could do it.

Actually getting away with it is more what encouraged them to be continue pushing the envelope...at least that was what I saw.

I hope that they learn a lesson from this ordeal, but won't be surprised if the light consequence only encourages him to continue down the wrong path of influence.

I agree. Hopefully they learn from it and move on. Assuming they manage to get out of this with fines. I hope that the punishment they receive from the university is enough to make a lasting impression.

Yes, all 3 are on scholarship. I doubt they get their schollies yanked over this. But hopefully the school will come down hard on them. They have to remember, it isn't just about these 3 knuckleheads. They let down their families, their team and their school. I think a nice long suspension and some quality time with the strength and conditioning coach would help them understand the error of their ways. Strength and Conditioning coaches are all minions of Satan.

I think the professional athletes and Wynona Rider examples are off. Most of the young players that come into the league don't come from a family like the Ball kids have. So, they don't necessarily have a reason to feel entitled at that point, unlike the Ball kids. In Wynona's case I'm almost sure drugs played a role there.

If they only get 20 days house arrest you think that's suffice punishment when the consequence for "regular" people is 3-10 years in prison?? That seems like special treatment, no? Maybe to some that they did get away with it in a sense.

Exactly. I can think of a few things that could have gotten me arrested around that age. Including once in Mexico myself ($80.00 cash handed directly to he cop took care of that lol).

But, I'm pretty sure being arrested means a forfeiture of that scholarship. At least that's what it means for kids that don't come from a privileged family.
