To be fair, without Kane, the best Spurs could hope for would be mid-table.

On the season? Probably, maybe more like 6th. They were plagued with injuries last season, including Kane who missed 2 months. Definitely struggled during that period, but overall results were still pretty good.

Who is the backup striker? I thought they had no one behind Kane

Llorente. He's been decent, but hasn't scored yet (not much playing time either so that's probably to blame). Obviously not on the same level as Kane tho.

Alli, Son, and Eriksen will need to step up for Spurs to weather the storm w/o Kane...tho it seems that time period will only be another week or so.

He has tremendous finishing quality. The only knock on him is that he gets tunnel vision and sometimes holds on to the ball too long. But he has great pace and energy, really puts pressure on the defense whenever he's in there.

Historically, Spurs has been a 6-19th place teams, with flashes of greatness every 15-20 years where they get close to winning the League while playing some beautiful football. They have also had a history of producing some great individual talent, only to have them leave for bigger and/or better clubs, Glenn Hoddle, Gareth Bale, Luka Modric, etc. Which is why I think Kane will end up leaving, probably soon, most likely to Real Madrid

True, but it seems like this is a different time for Spurs. It will be difficult for them to hold on to Kane if Madrid offer $200M, but he also seems like a Spurs guy through and through. I compare him to Dirk and the Mavs...he could have gone anywhere during his prime and most likely could have gotten more rings, but he stuck with the team. If I had to bet, it would be Alli that leaves before Kane.

The other major factor is Spurs new stadium coming in next season. It will be one of the biggest venues in the EPL and will host 2 NFL games a year along with various concerts and events throughout the year. Huge change from the small venue at old White Hart Lane. That's going to be a massive income boost for the program and should translate to them being better able to compete in the financial market with the other big name clubs.

Just as important as keeping players, Spurs have to keep Pochettino. He's gained a reputation for being a great developer of young talent and already younger players throughout England and beyond want to play for him. Very good chance Barkley signs with Spurs in the winter window. He reportedly snubbed Chelsea in the summer...how many times through history have players chosen Spurs over the Blues?

The new stadium etc could make a difference overall, but I still see him leaving. Levy is not and never has been the type to pay massive wages. And yeah, they need to hold onto Pochettino. I don't see him ever leaving for another EPL club. Doubt he'd go to Spain either, but could see him at Barca someday, and could also see someone like AC Milan coming after him.

As far as the question "how many times through history have players chosen Spurs over the Blues?"

Before 2003, I'd imagine it happened often, considering that before Abramovich came along, Chelsea were basically the London version of Everton.

There's something going on at Chelsea now that is making players stay away. Llorente (to Spurs), Lakaku (to ManU), Oxlade-Chamberlain (to Liverpool) all snubbed them to go elsewhere.

Yeah, I meant the current version of Chelsea...or any other big spending EPL club.

IMO, if Poch goes anywhere, it will be to the Argentina national team, but that may be much further down his coaching career. I suppose Barca could sway him. I know plenty of Man U fans wanted them to go after him. I think Levy will do whatever it takes to keep him tho. He's cheap, but not stupid.

The #1 reason why Spurs need to keep Poch at all costs. He's been great at identifying and developing young talent...all you gotta do is look at the England national team to see the proof. Kane, Alli, Trippier, and Dier are all first teamers. Harry Winks is on the squad, Rose used to be before injury, Kyle Walker is on the squad, and there's a good chance Barkley (future spur) gets back on the roster if he can get fit.

All of those players (minus Barkley because he isn't with Spurs yet, obviously) can attribute their rise in prominence on with the national team to Pochettino. Other young players see that and they want in. I don't know what Wenger's deal is, perhaps the times have passed him by or maybe he never was great with younger players.

I agree with you about Poch. But I've never understood the hype about Barkley, other than he's English and the press likes to hype them up to something better than they are (Raheem Sterling anyone?). To me he's very inconsistent. Would he be a good project for the right manager? Sure, but not for anywhere near the price tag put on him.

Yeah, he's never blown me away either. Can't even say that he'd crack the starting 11 at Spurs currently.

Poor Bilic he thought he had 3 points against Crystal Palace lol. Listened to this on the radio on Talk Sports driving today. The announcerss were saying thar injury time were the biggest 7 minutes of his career lol. Epic fail at the 7 minute mark of that. And after such a great win against the Spurs, they blow a big 3 points at death today.

Yeah, I think Bilic is gone soon, though to be fair, I put that draw on Antonio, all he had to do was keep it in the corner and let the time expire.

Everton is really bad

Yeah, avatar-changing bad... I'd rather be associated with my non-playoff MLS team at the moment... LOL!!!

Bottom line is that our back line is atrocious and I'm not sure quite how that gets fixed... So in the meantime we need to score. Its funny, I remember when fans were excited that we got Ashley Williams, and now he is the face of all that is wrong with the defense... Crazy.

We paid 50 Million for Sigurdsson and Koeman insisted on playing him out wide, and now the Unsworth refuses to play him at all...

PUT HIM AT HIS POSITION PLEASE!!!

Then if you insist on Rooney, play him up top until he gets gassed (Should take all of 20-30 minutes) and put on Niasse or for the love of GAWD try Lookman?

At least Unsworth is giving us some pace out wide with Mirallas and Lennon, but Lennon really choked away a goal, like he was afraid to shoot...

Bunches of fans howling about how Everton is going to be relegated. I don't think that. Too much time left and too much talent to not scrape up enough points to at least get out of the bottom three, but we might just make it close.

Funny, I have Everton that had such high hopes and is fighting for their lives, and my alma mater Florida State at the football team starting at #3 in the country and looking like a dumpster fire. Seems like a theme here... :D
