I suppose your talking bout Christopher Columbus coming to America in the late 1400's and claiming stakes to the ground that was occupied by Indians in certain areas. (Note I said Indians since there was no America and the term Native Americans couldn't exist... not being disrespectful). So a group of sophisticated white men come to a new country (btw, they didn't come here illegally. What laws existed then that would deem that) so they come to a new country that is occupied by warriors and savages living in the trees and there surrounding jungles (note again, not saying the white men weren't savages,, just sophisticated and intellectually smarter) and claim a world not owned by anyone at that time... a world only with occupants. Right or wrong; this is a wosupporthere the strongest survive. Not gonna delve into the new world since it's so ancient.

Listen, you, me or anyone will never live in a world where everyone is treated equally. Even if laws insisted on it there will always be unfair treatment. You have to stop holding whites ( not you personally, but the black race) hostage on what took place in the states two, three and even four hundred years ago. Not one person living today had anything to do with slavery. I understand the black man has been held back throughout history... I understand that. Im educated enough to also understand that as a result of this it held blacks back...even today. Lack of good jobs meant lack of living conditions which meant lack of respect and lack of education which meant lack of opportunities which meant lack of a quality life for families which meant broken families which meant turning to drugs and crime were the only ways to survive which meant the stigma we have today on the black race. In my opinion the way to fix this injustice has to come with time. Since the great late MLK and his peaceful pleas of equality we have come a long way in righting a wrong. I also understand how sick and tired blacks are of being singled out by cops... pulled over and asked questions and what not, and yes, sometimes shot unjustifiably... but waging a war on police and of everything american is not the way to be heard.

Lastly, if you're gonna single out republican presidents of being corrupt then why not include the democratic presidents too. Clinton certainly was corrupt. There pockets and their advocates certainly made a dime or two and the expense of you and I. This is part of the problem in america. Our two political parties are at war with each other. If this quote by the great Abraham Lincoln doesn't hold true here in this instance of political upheaval it never will.

"A house divided against itself cannot stand."

This logical statement rings truth in political policy to the average citizen. Unfortunately, I personally believe we will never be a united people. Our political practice is to far apart, and it's sad, because we all want the same things (save for a few nut case groups that are of small percentage... but are made out in the media that all whites, and all blacks, feel this way of each other) we all want a great and promising life for our families. All I can do is respect my neighbors of all colors and watch the world crumble before me.

You've outlined some horrific things in this post that must, by any measure of human decency, no longer be tolerated anywhere in the country. However, the absolute worse thing that you've written is, how ineffectual you believe yourself to be, in the face of those realities towards your fellow citizens. (Yes...the "all I can do " line)

In effect you are denouncing your own citizenship, your inability to give voice and force, towards those things that you've outlined as unjust, and, unnecessary, as it was done by those who supposedly founded and others who have subsequently defended, all that you find dear in this country. Worse, you honor the flag, and dishonor the constitution for which it stands.

In effect, let others do for you, that, which you are either unwilling or unable to do yourself. That's the hidden agenda behind the "Flag" outrage. Support the troops, like @dad, @Shark, and myself, support the cops, like my brother, they are all there to fight for and protect everyone...except when it's comfortable to not include everyone.

Citizenship is a right of birth in this country, it cannot be taken for granted nor ignored when it's denied in equal measure anywhere within its borders. It requires work, not just from those who are being denied equal treatment, but from those who see it and understand that to deny one threatens all. For you to say that.."All you can do is respect my (your) neighbors of all colors and watch the world crumble before me." is not all that you can do. At best it is the very least that you personally can do. If you believe that anything that you've written here to be true, then might I suggest that you stop the faux outrage over the flag, come face to face with those realities for others, perhaps for the neighbors that you so fondly speak of, then exercise your responsibilities as a full, but threatened, citizen by standing behind, better yet, taking a knee, against those who would deny equal justice/opportunity under law to all.

If what you're saying is on point. That means if a player catches a pass a yard beyond the first dn marker. Yet of his own power and volition. He runs 3 yards behind the first dn marker believing if he gets the corner on an approaching DB who was in a soft zone coverage. He can pick up huge yards, maybe even score. Just before he turns it up-field though. Zack Brown drops his shoulder into the pass catcher's rib cage area dropping him and the ball which he's carrying against his right side or side furthest from the 1st dn marker immediately and a clear 2 yards short of the ft dn marker. He'd still be given the 1st dn based on where he caught the ball and his decision which turned out to be a terrible one, to try and get more yards by backtracking behind the 1st dn marker is somewhere dismissed or washed away.

Theoretically players could run all the back to their end zone, be it a 4 yard backward run or a 40 yard backward run. Get tackled in their end zone and the ball would still go to the spot where he originally caught the pass.
There's one huge part of what I said that I think you missed. "In the process of being tackled". Where if the runner runs back 3 years to try to make a big play and gets tackled, the ball will be spotted there. I've seen countless times where the receiver catches the ball and gets tackled immediately and then gets thrown backwards, the ball is spotted at the point at which he caught the ball or furthest forward progress. Not where he landed on the ground after contact....

I think in any event, it's a confusing rule and subject to interpretation.

@Stymietee would I be a dick to point out that Columbus was actually lost when he discovered this continent, and that the people he found here were in fact NOT Indians of any sort??

A few points if I might:
1. Breaking the plane I believe only applies to the end zone where once done the play ends.

2. The NFL now defines a "catch" as one that completes the act to that play's complete end. So catching the ball now includes landing with it in full control. The confusion comes because there's still a rule that says that the ground cannot cause a fumble which was the case with JDox.

3. Depending on the player and reputation, there are some things that are taken for granted such as running out of bounds near the first down marker with the ball in the sideline hand that's close enough to the yard to gain as the player runs out of bounds.

4. When a player willfully retreats, he forfeits any previously gained yards if he is unable to regain the prior advancement on the same play or something like that, I believe.

5. Cowboys suck ass....that is all.

Pt # 5 is well taken until proven otherwise. Granted the Redskins still have a lot to prove & we have been misled in the past by decent starts. We will see. However the Boys lone victories now don't look so great. They beat the lowly Giants and the Cards (who now also look pretty bad & have only squeaked out victories over the Colts and 49ers - two horrible teams).

A lot could change in the weeks ahead, but for now the Eagles are the team to beat in NFC-E. Hopefully the Redskins step up this month.

@reptec101 ....I would love to have a "fair" "logical" "reasonable" conversation with you. I promise to respond to your initial posting, but as a reminder these are the questions that I would like answered as a basis upon which that conversation must take place. If you have some of your own that don't distract from the "CORE" issue I'll respond to those too!!

1. Outside of birth rite, what does it mean to be "American?"

2. Outside of support, what are the responsibilities of "Americans?"

3. Do you think that change comes because protest is admired or well placed, or when it makes their intended targets uncomfortable?

4. Military men such as @dad, @Shark and myself have risked everything because we believe/ believed in the promise of this country. What actions or activities should those who also believe in the promise of this country do in order to make it the best that it can be?

5. First slavery, then Jim Crow, followed by James Crow esquire, why do you not believe that racism in its current form is NOT an off-spring of those systems?

I don't want to overdo this so I'll temporarily end with this:

6. Do you support the notion that in this country, we should all be comfortable with a system that overwhelmingly supports one group, often at the expense of other groups, including the poor, invites all others to join, at partial measure, just as long as they support that system?

Aikman was saying Boys should have used all the clock they can. I have heard several others today. However I am in agreement. Get the score to go ahead then play DEFENSE .... what a novel idea.

I think the person that screwed up was McCarthy. Going for two did nothing for him. Had they kicked the extra point a FG would have won instead of tied the game. The offense bailed him out with the TD.

BTW if that LBer who went the wrong way on Rodgers last scramble had not screwed up their might not have been a game winning TD and they could have gone to OT.
damn you I was going to go there , it made no sense to go for 2 if you kick the extra point and dallas score the TD you kick the game winning FG not the game tying one

see dean we can play MMQB as well .

how the fuck do you know the opportunity for a TD EVER COMES AGAIN ? if its there you take it . a penalty , a sack , a TO , all could happen

Not playing MMQB. Even if Dez catches that pass it still leaves way too much time for Rodgers to get a Fg never mind a TD. You have Elliot, so pound it for the first down take the clock down to a 30 to 40 seconds. Then you have 4 tries with 2 timeouts to score a td from the 10 yardline. Its just clock mgt.

LOL... So Native Aemricans weren't prevalent on the continent in the 1400's. Too funny. Ive never said only Indians had colonized and were living in America before Columbus..or Vespucci... or Leaf Eriksson 500 years earlier had stepped on it's soil. They're are a lot of theories and speculation on its population of various people. BTW, I only mentioned Columbus because it's universally believed. I'm not gonna argue and debate this very ancient shit. Because one scholar will tell you one thing and another will tell you something totally different. Records weren't kept so only artifacts found can paint a picture of who and what were actually here. Move on.

its MMQB'ing if you troubleshoot a coach after the fact . and again you cant pass up a td when its there . you dont know what the future holds . plus the defense needs to hold in that situation

you expected their defense to stop Rodgers? that is funny. its not troubleshooting its clock mgt. If it was the game winning TD I have no problem with it but it wasn't.

Section 13, article 1

The Forward Progress of a runner or airborne receiver is the point at which his advance toward his opponent’s goal ends and is the spot at which the ball is declared dead by rule, irrespective of the runner or receiver being pushed or carried backward by an opponent.

This is just my take on the above rule listening to the discussion last night and a little investigating. Forward progress is the furthest position the ball is in while in contact with defenders.

Come on guys. Scoring a TD in the NFL is easy. I mean Aaron Rodgers did such a wonderful job on every possession they scored 69 points. It isn't like Dak threw a pick six or anything to help the Packers score.

Dean's dream...Bruce Allen sitting on Aaron Rodgers lap...:wank:
