Wonder what it's going to take to sign Cashner.

I heard one talking-head say some team is going to lose their minds and go for 3 @ $17 ea.......Pretty darn steep.

I think that's applying a ton of speculation, and misjudged speculation at that. I don't see how anyone could think a team would limit what they do just to get to the Wild Card game. And anyone who finds no value in their team going to the postseason repeatedly because of "quick exits" in seasons past is not good at the whole "being a fan" thing.
I see no value in quick exits at this point. I think I have been very good at being a fan. Not everyone views the team the same as you or I. It doesn't take being happy about being shown the door very quickly to be a fan at all.

If you don't think some team's front offices are happy just to be chasing a wildcard then I think you are being naive. They are more than happy to be chasing a wildcard because they think enough fans will be happy to just have a shot at the postseason. I do think some fans will eventually get turned off by that.

My point was that no front offices construct a team with the intent of JUST getting a Wild Card slot, and there is no damn way anyone will convince me otherwise. If that's me being naive, then so be it.

Now, I'm sure there are front offices who are limited in a number of ways when it comes to the construction of their teams, and probably have the realization that the best case scenario is a Wild Card slot... but what you said was that there are teams who purposely stop themselves short from doing anything beyond a Wild Card-level team. Which I 100% refute.

With the need of pitching being league wide he may get a 3 year offer.......Not sure where my line with him would be but 3 at $40 mil would be on the other side for sure......Way on the other side actually.

I don't know if there are any who only wish they would win the WC and don't care if they go further. I do think there are some who have the mentality that they just need to get in and then anything can happen. If you convince yourself of that then it doesn't make sense to spend more than it takes to win a wildcard berth.

I like the one wildcard format much better than the play-in format that they have now. Teams that barely finish above .500 don't deserve to go to the postseason. I actually don't like it mostly because it isn't fair to the top wildcard team and puts them at an unfair advantage. If they ever expend the league again then maybe we can have 4 4-team divisions in each league and get rid of a wildcard.

Hold on and win tonight, get some more help from the Indians, and the Rangers just might be able to get back in on the race for the second wildcard.

It's worth noting that we still have 7 games with the A's, including 3 in Oakland coming up. Oakland beat the Rangers really bad last time. I'd nominate that series for worst of the year along with the season opening series against the Indians.
