btw, if that game was an accurate representation of Miss St and LSU as some of you are trying to claim, then the problem isn't that I have LSU ranked too high, it's that I have Miss St ranked too low.

Personally, I don't think LSU will play that bad all year, nor do I think Miss St will play that well.

I thought Miss. State was playing well heading into that game. La Tech isn't a good team, but going on the road and beating them by the margin they did, had me thinking they might be able to pull it off against LSU. Also, I think Mullen may be the 2nd best coach in the entire conference. What he's done at Miss. St is pretty remarkable. I never understood why he wasn't getting looked at elsewhere. We'll see if Miss. St can take it on the road against a top 15 team in UGA, really looking forward to that one.

LSU plays Syracuse, so we'll see how they do in that game as well. If they struggle and/or lose, I'll probably drop them out. They should be able to seperate themselves in the 4th quarter at a minimum.

And I think Georgia beats Miss St. But the Miss St LSU score is a sure reason to give pause on the Georgia game, so I think everyone's going to be paying attention to that game.

At this point that isn't really saying much. Who would be his competition? Stoops? Mason?

I've always thought Mullen was extremely underrated. I'd agree, there isn't much competition currently, but I'm still not sure why the traditionally rich programs(Florida, LSU, Tennessee for example) never took a run at him? Maybe they did, I don't follow it that closely.

I think UGA/Miss St is essentially a toss up game. I'm still not completely sure what to think of UGA, mostly because I'm down on ND, so that one point win has me questioning how good they truly are. But they did look against an App St. team that'll probably win 9/10 games. I think Miss. St has probably played better this season, but UGA has more overall talent and it's at home. Should be a good game.

Oh I agree. He's a solid coach and why he hasn't left for greener pastures is beyond me.

Ok, I don't base rankings based on single games, nor do I base my rankings based on the ranks of other teams.

.....even though it was 100% the transitive property.

I'm not comparing the two. I'm asking for you to maintain similar logic in your process. Not trans property.

Sorry I don't use the same method as you do in your rankings?

I think that would be a pretty dumb way to rank teams.

Georgia has a decent sized talent gap over Miss St....but so did LSU.

I was talking about the actual box score, quarter by quarter score then the final. OU was better against Ohio State than Alabama was against Florida State IMO. Plus OU had to do it as a road game. And the only thing irrational is you not adding any context to a score. I mean it's pretty ridiculous you're going to hold it against a team when the outcome has been decided. And no, there isn't much difference between IU and Colorado State, but I'm not surprised you're suggesting otherwise.
There is definitely a difference between the two. Indiana would be a contender in that conference every year. As usual, you don't have a foot to stand on but please, I'd love to hear the rationale behind saying two teams are the same when they had basically the same records while playing demonstrably different schedules in terms of difficulty. I mean, I'm sure you'd say there's really no difference between Old Dominion and Stanford or USC, right? Same logic, after all.

So let's look quarter by quarter.

Alabama was ahead after the 1st, ahead after the 2nd, then they were up by two scores by the end of the 3rd and finished the game up 17.

Oklahoma and OSU were tied after the 1st. Tied after the 2nd. After the 3rd, where both teams went back and forth, Oklahoma had a 4 point lead and then finished the 4th up 15.

By your logic, OSU was clearly more competitive throughout the entire game than FSU was. But, as always, I look forward to you spinning this to fit your bias against OSU.

I agree. But I think Miss St. has an advantage at QB and Head Coach, which is why I think it could be a toss up.

It's week3.

They have a ton of talent. Even with the loss LSU took, they aren't likely to lose more than 4 games on the year.

You can sit here and use things like "resumes" and other methods to ignore information, and maybe even convince yourself that Iowa St and LSU are equal because of "resumes". But I think that's pretty stupid and I call it like I see it.

It's week 3 and you're using recruiting rankings and conference affiliation determine where you rank teams instead of what has happened on the field during the first three weeks. If you are ranking teams as of the first three weeks of the season, or projecting teams based off what has happened on the field during the first three weeks, that'd be one thing. But, ranking teams based on how you project a team to finish based not on coaching, performance or whatever is a tricky situation. We have no idea how the season will turn out and guessing based off a bunch of off field stuff is even trickier. If I think Duke wins out and makes it to the playoff because their schedule is weak, their coach is great then should they be a top 5 team in week 3? What about Stanford. If I think they finish with 2 losses, should they be a top 10 team? Even though their USC loss looks less good and their SDSU loss isn't good, are they a top 10/25 team? If everyone projected the season the polls would look ridiculous.

It's week 3 and most teams have yet to play a decent opponent. I am not going to punish the teams that have actually played tough team because they lost a single game, while putting in a team that has played nothing but crap teams and won. If I know they are usually a good team and have reason to believe they are still a good team, then I'm going to rank them. And just because some team that usually isn't good has played 3 cupcakes and won them all, doesn't mean I'm going to rank them.

Deal with it, cry about it, whatever. I use ALL the information I have available. I don't make up stupid rules to ignore data as a means of promoting my biases.

Avg. Rank the last 4 years according to Massey composite:

Colorado State - 62.75
Indiana - 67

Colorado State actually rated higher last year despite playing a worse schedule and only having one more win.

Colorado State currently is ranked higher in the Massey composite. So there's that.

OU shot themselves in the foot, which is why the margin was close on the scoreboard, that was the only thing keeping Ohio State in the game. I mean seriously, Ohio State was outgained by 200 yards before that garbage time FG at the end. There's no bias in those facts.

Weird realization. I have USC rated lower than most because they struggled at home against a team I thought they should have easily handled. I have Maryland ranked higher than most because of a quality road win against that same team. Yet I have USC several spots ahead of Maryland.

Crazy how team name bias can affect your judgement in these things
