Charlie..............I'm not sure what your problem is, but you seem to have a great deal of difficulty dealing with anyone or anything said that disagrees with your point of view. I've only been a Patriots fan since I was 10. Before that I was a NY Giants fan. Why? Because I was 10 in 1960. 1960, that year the AFL was formed. I knew and loved guys like babe Parelli, Jim Nance and John Smith.

LaGarrett Blount returned kickoffs for the Patriots. Mathew Slater has returned kickoffs as late as 2016. He also has played wide receiver and Safety. Austin Carr has proved NOTHING in the NFL. You have him on some pedestal as the next Edelman or Jerry Rice. He hasn't caught a football in a real game yet. Take a breath.
He had a great Senior year in college. Since your so knowledgeable why aren't you coaching in the NFL, the guy who's decisions your shitting on wears 9 Super Bowl Rings as an Asst. Coach, Defensive Coordinator and Head Coach...........I tend to trust his judgment more than the 3000 guys buzzing around SportsHoopla.

I'm just disagreeing with some of your "whatever I say is 100% true crap". You are the one spouting off about how much you know or think you know. Because I don't go around putting my personal life on here like you do with every other post. You think you're the only guy on here to coach or be around sports? You talk so matter if factly. And you are wrong very often. And because I said Carr can catch I'm saying he's a HOF? That's the only time I've ever mentioned his name anytime ever. And because I don't like the way the WR spot has been handled I'm shitting on the Patriots coaching staff? Ok buddy. You need to slow down and take a breather. I know you feel like Papa Patriot on here and that's fine. I enjoy reading what you've heard and seen. Just because I don't post very often doesn't mean I don't read everything on here every day.

Those two have earned their stripes. They both are versatile and have proven it. Their stats LAST YEAR aren't relevant. Can't you appreciate this is BB's team and he wins a lot more than he loses and manages his roster better than anyone else. You can't pick one example and judge it without factoring in every other personell decision.

What has Slater earned other then Special Teams????? I have almost as many catches as he does.

Coach B messed up with the WR position this year. I say this because I believe that. Sorry. Sometimes the coach is wrong. I feel he is in this case. I love the coaching staff. But they aren't perfect. God forbid someone doesn't love every move they do.

I happen to agree with you. @BigKen is very knowledgeable and a great poster. I'm glad to have him on MY board.
You are welcome too. Agreement is not necessary.
If two people always think alike - one of them is not necessary!!!!!!
I think we all could use a win or 12.....

ummm just this.... Slater is on every ST unit. Kickoff, Kick return, Punt, punt return, field goal, field goal defense... and has played both WR and safety in a pinch.

What the first game of the season has shown is that any good team is just two or three injuries or lost free agents away from being a mediocre team. While the Pats' offense didn't look solid all night, they got worse after Dola was hurt. Likewise the defense when Hightower went down. At DE, three key players left and their loss was evident by the play of those players left at DE. The real proof of the team's worth is how they answer the questions flying around right now.

And I'm sure Carr(who was a RB and DB in high school and became a WR in college) could line up on kickoff and punt coverage/return teams "in a pinch". As I'm sure most WR RB DB and LB's could all do if they had too. What's more important, a quality #4/#5 WR or a 2nd/3rd string special teams player who just ok at WR? Again...we have plenty of depth at special teams. Give me that WR who might have that Edelman/Wleker gift in the slot. He showed it in college and the preseason. I will take my chances with him.

I went to an NFL Snaps Count site. Picked a random game from last year. There were 5 DB's 2 LB's and 1 RB who didn't log a single snap for their positions but did on special teams. Doesn't look like they were used for multiple positions. So, it's ok to just play special teams but not ok to just play offense or defense? Like I said, we have plenty of special team guys. The Patriots won't go 0-16 because Carr or another WR doesn't line up on kickoffs. Yes. I wished all 50+ players could line up at every position and play great. Coach B knew Edelman was out. Willing to bet he knew the extent of Mitchell's injury. Knows that Amendola is a hit away from missing games(Injury prone) and that Cooks might not be on the same page as Brady yet. Carr played fantastic during the preseason yet he rolled the dice and lost. I love Coach B. But I'm not a Lemming. I'm a Patriot fan for life. Always have been. I will congratulate Bill on his success and I will shake my head when I feel he messed up.

No, you aren't sure because he has never done it. I'm sure Slater can do everything he has done because.... wait for it.... he has done it.

No, I'm sure he could.....wait for it..... stand in the end zone and catch the ball and take a knee. Or watch the ball go out of the back of the end zone or run down the field on kickoffs that go out of the end zone and high five the return guy. So yeah. I'm pretty confident he can play on certain special teams. If a 300lb fat ass lineman like Dan Connolly can return one..... wait for it.....Carr could too.

And what it all comes down to is this. The Patriots are thin at the WR position. If Coach B. passes on an alright WR(even that will be hard to find) for a lesser one because he's ok on special teams(a position we have depth on) then in my opinion Coach B. is wrong. I'm very aware of "In Bill we trust". But sometimes......just sometimes....I don't trust him 100%.

My gut feeling...Bill Gambled that Carr would not get picked up. Sean Peyton called his bluff.

Simple as that.

There are only three healthy wide receivers on the current active roster. BB has three choices, IMHO. First, activate someone from the 53 man roster. That would be rookie Jacob Hollister who is a tight end but may be a good enough receiver to help out in the short passing game, where the Pats are thin. Second, activate someone from the practice squad. Demarcus Ayers, a speed burner with punt and kickoff return ability, and Cody Hollister, a big wide receiver with special team experience, are the candidates. I think Hollister would fill more of a need. Third, pick up a street free agent. BB has already had several in for tryouts. Jeremy Ebert is the only one I know of who has been with the Pats and may have some knowledge of their system.

I think the offense is going to be just fine in a few weeks. Bunch of new folks that need to gel. Hell, even Gronk didn't play well last week. Cooks and Dorsett could end up being a helluva lot of fun to watch once they get it together.

No it doesn't surprise me. But you need to get your head out of your ass. Bill knows the consequences of his actions. He doesn't need me micro-judging.

Great! That means Bill and I both know he fucked up on this one.
