What's funny is that this is exactly what most of us said would happen. But you know he's going to try to paint this as some kind of win for the Pacers.

Either that...or he will go into some ridiculous, disjointed teenage girl meltdown rant about how unfair it is, the league favors the Lakers, doesn't care about poor little small town teams like Indiana and how this has scarred him worse than the Malice at the Palace.

A little more of a punishment than I expected, but not quite what I had hoped.

Overall, the only possible victory for the Pacers out of this would be to match last season's win total without George.

1/2 million dollar fine is nothing to sneeze at - but not major in the grand scheme of things.

I think its kinda ridiculous to already be discussing NEXT OFFSEASON before this season even begins---- but it will be interesting to see if anyone actually goes to the Lakers in th eoffseason- a guy or two i nparticular

it just goes to show you- this isnt the NBA of 20 some years ago.

hell, seems like the ball boy makes a half mil in the NBA these days, but 'it's nothing to sneeze" according to Wiggy like it'll get in the way of any signings...

this isn't 20 years ago...:rolleyes2:

To be fair, I think that it's nothing to sneeze at in the sense that it is apparently the largest fine the NBA has ever leveled for the type of violation they committed.

If I understand what I read correctly, the Lakers had previously been warned about expressing interest in a player under contract and Magic's Kimmel appearance violated both the rule and the league's warning.

The league also said that the investigation "did not reveal evidence of an agreement or understanding that the Lakers would sign or acquire George." Had that occurred, they'd be looking at possible lost draft picks and/or not being allowed to sign or trade for George.

As for any effect on their ability to sign any FA's...the only thing likely to effect that is if the team, especially the young guys, just go out and shit the bed this season.

It's chump change for a franchise like the Lakers, that basically prints money. Goes to show the infractions were minor. New GM basically told George's agent the Lakers were interested, like that isn't common sense anyway. They were warned after Magic's TV appearance though, so they were fined.

It should be though.

Not because the Lakers did something terrible, but because 2017 NBA dollars are worth less than they were even 5 years ago. The most recent fine should be the stiffest. NBA inflation is real.

plus- i think the most important thing is- it serves them that they are on notice.

I kind of think thats what Indiana wanted in the long run as well.

if they do the same exact thing again--- even though it wasnt a "major" violation- the penalty will be substantially worse.

if the Lakers dont toe the line and display good behavior- they will get slammed--- this was their "warning" essentially.

When was the last time a star player, who wasn't originally drafted by the team, who joined the Cavs in free agency?

Dumb fuck!

Interesting that everyone (including Celtic fans) used to say "a star free agent will never sign with the Celtics."

They have 2 in the last 2 years.

yah....def true...good for them---- it def. shows how the NBA is changing. Guys arent going to PLACES any more- they are going for A. A chance to win and B. Money more so than warm weather or being close to movie stars or whatever.

before Horford- like the two below said- IF you consider him a star--- I honestly think the last significant free agent they signed was a pretty washed up Dominque.....right? ya think?
