Great QB, sub-par roster

vs

Good QB- bad roster.

Not a great formula for success. Scarcity matters of course as I mentioned earlier in the thread, but I'd be really wary of this kind of cap commitment for anything less than a great or transcendent QB. Doesn't mean the Lions can't build a stable defense and offense around Stafford- it'll just be that much harder now. The new GM better be on his toes.

Be nice if Quin didn't draft long snappers or sign lineman with hip injuries. That doesn't help.

We've had a majority of the cap in three players for going on a decade. It's actually a smaller percentage now with Staffs mega bucks and no CJ or Suh. Even though I wish Suh had been the longterm investment.

I don't disagree with you on any of that. I also have no optimism. It's my coping mechanism.
