Getting waxed by Michigan and 2 losses kept them out.

That's ok to say that, but it creates a second question. Why should the team that they
beat get in over them? I've always thought the term "head-to-head" was supposed
to mean something. I guess it didn't.
AND...because Clemson waxed you the argument then becomes, should the Big10
even get a play off spot?

Win your division, play for the conference title. It doesn't get much simpler than that. He's wrong, it would be a different story if they choose their champion better.
This is a lot like Alabama and LSU in 2011. Because the SEC has crappy divisions, the 2 best teams did not end up playing for the conference championship.

What would be a better way?

But the difference is ....
LSU didn't get left out in favor of Alabama. They both went to the title game.
Ohio St. got in because of name brand and that includes Urban Meyer which equals TV sets across the country. Seriously has anyone ever been on a college football board or a college football Facebook group that didn't have a horde of Ohio St. fans? It's like they have their own army for fvks sake. That's not knocking them, its just being honest.
