What would be a better way?

Same thing the SEC needs to do.

Get rid of divisons completely, they are unbalanced and they do not lead to the 2 best teams playing for the conference.

Designate 2 or 3 permament rivalry games that get played every year. Ohio St vs Michigan every year, etc. The games that matter most, you keep them.

Rotate the rest of the conference games.

Take the 2 best teams at the end of the year and put them in the championship game. And if a rematch is needed, then it's better than taking some team that doesn't deserve it and putting them in there.

Even on an 8 game conference schedule, you'll never go more than like 2 years without playing any team in the conference.

Agreed....division-less is the way to go for all Power 5 conferences.

I would add to this by having a mechanism in place to minimize the chances of in-conference teams playing each other two consecutive weeks: Thanksgiving week can be reserved for major out-of-conference match-ups for many teams.

To accommodate this, all conferences go to 4 OCC games with the requirement that at least 2 of those 4 OOC games be played against Power 5 schools (Notre Dame and BYU qualify as P5). This system would allow for some very cool permanent OOC games between rivals every Thanksgiving. Here are some examples of heated rivalry OOC games that could be played Thanksgiving week... permanently/every year:

USC v Notre Dame
Utah v BYU
Texas v Texas A&M
Oklahoma v Nebraska
Iowa v Iowa State
Pitt v West Virginia
Rutgers v Syracuse
Louisville v Kentucky
Clemson v South Carolina
Georgia v Georgia Tech
Florida v Florida State

And....if Colorado State and Cincinnati are ever added to the Big 12 (along with BYU)....which I believe should happen, then Thanksgiving week we could also have the following games.... permanently/every year:

Colorado v Colorado State
Ohio State v Cincinnati (Ohio State v Michigan would be played late October/early November each year)

And....if Houston is ever added to the PAC....which I believe should happen, then Thanksgiving week we could have the following Gulf of Mexico Battle... permanently/every year:

LSU v Houston

Again.... the above policy of having permanent rivalry OOC games played Thanksgiving week every year for some teams would help minimize the chances of two in-conference opponents playing each other two consecutive weeks under a division-less system. With this policy, the only cases of Thanksgiving week in-conference games with a slight risk of being played again the very next week in the conference Championship Game would be Auburn v Alabama, and perhaps Michigan v Michigan State, and maybe Washington v Washington State..... but again, those are probably minimal risk occurrences.

A positive side effect of having a division-less conference system is that conferences could consist of an odd number of members (11, 13, or 15 member conferences would be OK).

Maybe the Nittany Lions should have been in the playoffs instead of Ohio St. After the waxing that Clemson handed them, it seems that the Buckeyes didn't belong there.

Easy enuf to say now, but looking at it that way, PSU didn't belong either. They got beat by a 3 loss team in their bowl game

No they didn't. It's going to take some strange set of circumstances before a 2 loss team will make the CFP.
They won their conference including the head to head vs Ohio St. They got fvcking hosed.

That didn't mean shit. They had 2 losses and the CFP comm. wasn't going to put them in over a 1 loss team. If that's what you want, conf. champs., then a 13-0 Western Michigan would be in. Tell PSU to not lose 2 fucking games this season

PSU won the H2H with OSU,finished with the same win total and won the conference championship. And lets not forget.1 of those 2 losses was to Pitt in a rivalry game.Pitt also beat that Clemson team that waxed OSU last season.

PSU definitely got hosed I'll take the results on the field.Over opinion any day

There's Ohio State fans that have stated they didn't belong there. Which is very respectable imo. The one good thing that came out of this. Is it did show the system still needs work. And possibilities are being discussed. In the end there's really no good reason a conference champion shouldn't be in the play offs over a non champion with a head to head win. Or good reason not to expand the play offs and establish a solid selection system based on actual merit.

Except the fact the stated goal is to put in the 4 best teams. People like you just can't deal with the reality.

Reality would be easy to see the best teams were not in the play offs. The fact is there are no reasons against play off expansion and change. That haven't been easily debunked. Aside from maybe fear of competition imo

Because Michigan St did so much better the year before.

Did Michigan State start playing in Pennsylvania?Michigan State and Penn State are two different teams. Also two different seasons. You're back to basing the system on speculation and opinion.Still doesn't change the fact that Penn State beat Ohio State on the field and won the conference. And still no valid reasons against play off expansion........
