why not? having some power off the bench would be a nice change

As has been the Giants problem for a few years, tough to have a bench full of guys that aren't flexible. Parker has no options so your stuck with him, for better or worse. Talented enough to not want to expose to waivers, but if he's not hitting tough to keep around. Same problem with Kontos and Gearrin, and formerly Gonor and many others in the past.

Tough to have roster flexibility when everyone is basically stuck where they are. Young guys are stuck in the minors because the guys ahead of them are out of options, until a few years go by and then they're out of options blocking other younger guys, and the cycle goes on. Look at the dodgers, they have a shuttle for their AAA team, able to shift guys up and down easily (they also use the DL a lot). Giants can't do that without making at least 2 moves.

I do like Parker though as a 5th OFer and hope this is the start of good things for him. It was a very small sample size before he got hurt this year, and in past years he's shown that he can at least crush righties.

Goldy is a beast. His 8-pitch AB has totally unnerved Dyson, who immediately gave up another single and now has walked a .160 hitter. :L

The Giants hitters seem to have no understanding of this sort of thing, as they have one walk in 8 innings. And 24th in baseball in walks, and 28th in runs.

edit- and Dyson wiggles out of it. He's gonna fit right in.

Maybe pitchers aren't afraid to pitch in the strikezone to the Giants? I feel like the Giants typically don't chase they just don't do much with what they're given.

Good ole Giants baseball can still get my heart racing when I forget about the standings for a little bit.

Yup.

Even this year, when standings-wise, I want a bad record, I am still 100% rooting for the Giants to win in-game and still yell at the tv when they do something stoopid.

This isn't what we were hoping for from Parker at the start of the season.

When/if Slater comes back this year, where does he play?

good arguments, but at a 10k ft level, parker always looks like he's focused and busting it. i'll take that

I'm not arguing against Parker, more just making a general statement about the team. Again, I think he's valuable as a 5th OFer who can start against some righties. And on this team he should definitely be given a shot, which he will (and is taking advantage at the moment!)

This is at least my hope, that Span and Pence platoon one spot (LF would be preferable, but RF probably makes more sense). Less is more with these guys, having Span playing only against righties (he's been brutal versus lefties) and Pence having plenty of off days, I think combined they would have a pretty solid bat in 1 outfield spot, plus they only sabotage 1 portion of the outfield defensively instead of 2.

How they fill they remaining spots, we'll see. Gotta think whoever it is is just keeping the seat warm until Shaw, Duggar, Reynolds, etc. are ready.
