There are a couple of things you're missing though.

First, a big part of the reason his shooting percentage was so low was because he shot poorly his first 2 games, especially the first game when he shot 2-15. In the other games he played, he shot at around 50%. Because of the small number of games played in the summer league, those first 2 games have a bigger impact on his overall shooting percentage than they would over a larger sample size.

Second, he may very well shoot a decent percentage. Pretty much anyone who saw Magic play, knows he was not a good outside shooter, especially early in his career. Yet, he shot 53% from the field as a rookie. The reason was because the majority of his shots were close to the basket.

Lonzo's shots will likely be very similar to Magic's rookie year in that most will come off of drives to the basket or wide open shots where his form and slow release won't be as much of a factor.

So, like Magic, Lonzo may well shoot a decent percentage, but it won't be because he's a great shooter. It'll be because of drives to the basket and getting left wide open.

This, that first game skewed his overall shooting %.

You under-estimate the genius of Lavar Ball far to much - Lavar is considerably older and he knows that he can use is age, job skills to be an asshole and get away with it. I had people that did that tell me when I was 17 that "couldn't to the same thing because I too young to get away with it". Agree with most of this. I will say though, that whatever the reason, Lavar has attracted a lot of attention and money to himself and his son.

Personally, I think he could have accomplished the same thing with a lot less of the over the top nonsense, but one thing that is for sure, it has worked to some degree.

I agree re: the Lakers. He has quieted down significantly since Lonzo was drafted. On the day of Lonzo's introductory presser, Lavar got himself in front of some microphones, started talking his talk and found himself quickly whisked away to some other room and out of the spotlight.

Really haven't heard a lot from him since. lol

I recally a highly publicized story about Lavar's demands for Nike. He as asking for something no player has ever gotten. So I can easily say he cost Lonzo a Nike contract.

Lavar saw the opportunity to make himself known and did just that. In fact he was so well known that you could not turn on ESPN without him becoming a topic of discussion. He was all over social media and the news. In that aspect he was very smart. In the end he screwed it all up. He will not even come close to the money he had hoped he could get. The BBB will probably have a good following among Laker fans but nationwide it will be a flop.
