Sampson's scoring correlated with Olajuwon coming aboard. Pretty solid reason why his scoring took a dip when you added one of the top NBA players in history.
go figure. the celtics added another 2 HOFers in the front court after they drafted bird and his numbers went UP.

That is just it.

The way the Warriors play, they all have very defined roles. He is only marginally better than he was 2 years ago. The difference is that the masses have come to appreciate his game more.

As a player george is better offensively and on defense.

Same year that Hakeem jumped from 20.6 pts per game to 23.5.

Sampson also dropped 2 FGA per game. Guess who picked them up?
thats impossible to determine. i dunno, john lucas?

But did they play the same position? Sampson was 7'4. Olajuwon was 7'0".

McHale and Parish didn't do the same things as Bird. They didn't play in the same area. Of course they're not impacted.

yup, hakeem came on...but my point remains. 22.1 to 18.9

Is it too hard to admit that 99% of all star players improve? You original post saying Klay was a role player during his second season remains really silly regardless of why Ralph Sampson regressed in year 3.

By the way, the Rockets made the Finals in '86, so despite Sampson's scoring being down, he still played at a very high level until the injuries hit.

Lastly, there is a huge difference in eras. Sampson was close to NBA ready coming out of high school, but instead he spent 4 years at UVA. Klay developed at a much different pace.

You said Klay used to be a role player.

I said he has been basically the same guy during the Warrior 3 year run.

You came back saying he was a role player in his second season.

Of course he was. So we're Westbrook, Leonard and Harden

Both Klay and George are good players, don't know how George would work on the Warriors though.

I wish they had done this, not because I'm a Pacers fan, but so George can be a malcontent over there and ruin their chemistry.

There's a reason they turned it down, though. Klay is the better player at this point.
I don't know about that - but the Warriors won with Klay Thompson - Not Paul George. It has been said that you have to be careful about chosing a player you have never won a title with over the one you have won. Chemistry is everything and unless PG will sign a contract extension - I wouldn't and in fact even with the contract extension, Klay will most likely spend his entire career with the Warriors - they would be foolish to change that for some one wanting a max contract

Yep, he's my no doubt favorite Warrior
Well the thing of it is that Curry and Thompson grew up together and Thompson's father - won championships with Magic Johnson and Kareem - With Mychael Thompson as a mentor - that counts a lot more for the future of the Curry/Thompson combo which could easily carry the Warriors another decade like Duncan and Parker did the Spurs. No way in hell I would trade that for a disgruntled player that said he wanted to play for the Lakers next year and now denies saying that. To many unknowns. The Warriors should have laughed Indiana out of the building

There's no way to know if Klay will take less money to stay with Golden State. As it stands, they've got 2 years left with Klay and will probably win 2 championships in that time frame. 4 championships in 5 years. At that point, I think he may want to show people that he can be the #1 for a team and I'm sure there will be teams willing to pay him. Unless Durant is going to end up taking even less money so that Klay can get paid.

Paul George is overrated. I don't know how long it will take some of you to realize that. He has never been an elite player.

he has excellent offensive ability but mentally he's no warrior. he'll score his points and have his fun, but i wouldn't ever expect him to be the centerpiece of a team expected to contend for glory, if i'm an owner.

He'd be fine as a #2#3 on a title team, like the Lakers with LeBron and Westbrook and Ball and PG in 2020
