Yea. The 1 yr contract makes it ok... he is a decent, if limited, defender... and the Lakers could certainly use that.

There's nothing to dislike about the KCP signing. Virtually no downside and plenty of upside.

I hesitate at the word "plenty." KCP is what he is at this point... IMO.

I'm not talking necessarily about KCP's upside but the upside of the signing. Part of that upside is the potential for KCP to improve but part of it is just the improvement to the team from having a guard who can hit 3s and defend, especially when combined with a facilitator like Lonzo Ball.

If I were Rondo and I knew I'd only be getting a small role on a team, I'd probably rather take a vet minimum deal with the Thunder or Cavaliers or somebody else who will be good than take $4 million to be a mentor on a bad team. But I'm not Rondo and it's easy for me to turn down three million hypothetical dollars. Plus, who knows if any of the contenders even want him.

Yeah, the bold is more what I think is going on. A team that has a shot at the playoffs may not necessarily need a mentor type player.

He's also getting a little long in the tooth, so he may be thinking that if he shows he has something left with the Lakers, a playoff caliber team may be interested in him at the trade deadline. :noidea:

He looked pretty good in the playoffs (albeit, only 2 games) and most of the country thought Chicago was going to knock out Boston until Rondo got hurt. I'm not sure what else he can do to convince teams that he has something left.

I'm not so sure getting Pope is worth singing a song over... maybe a head nod.
Nah, it's a beautiful morning because we have a competent front office that won't make crazy decisions. I.E Pope is a decent enough player, we got him on a 1 year, and we're pretty much set up for what should be a good player development year. Sure beats waking up to seeing my team sign Mozgov for 4 years, 72 mil...

Dedmon, Hawks agree to 2-year, $14M deal

Obviously Noel is better but this can't be good for him. Atlanta was one of the teams that could potentially have offered him a big deal. Instead, they go with the lesser known, cheaper Dedmon. Can't say I blame them.

And anything to keep that pick away from Boston always makes me a bit happier....

He can score some but shooting isn't his strength.

KCP was projected to develop into a 3-and-D player and I don't think he's far off from that. He shot .350 from 3-point range last year. Nothing amazing but solid enough. Shoot may not be his strength but he seems to be capable.

He is still just 24. So there's that.
Yea... sounds youngish... going into his 5th NBA season, though... percentages that always hover around 40% overall and 33-34% on 3's...

Anything's possible, but he doesn't seem like a good bet for significant improvement over what he's shown thus far.

He made under 40% of his FG's.....I wouldn't call him a capable shooter. And he's a career 33% 3-ball shooter. That's rather pedestrian.

He's a good defender and a decent passer.....plus a solid team player. He's gonna fit nicely next to Ball.

Shot about 35% from 3 in 2 of his 4 seasons.

35% from 3 if you're playing good defense is fine. He was shooting close to 40% the first 3 months of the season and then fell off. He has definitely shown flashes of being able to score from downtown. If you're excited about KCP, I don't get how you aren't excited about the possibility of Ball setting up KCP for open 3-pointers. He could become a very efficient 3-and-D player for L.A.
