"Boston gets the No. 3 pick in Thursday's draft from Philadelphia, plus either a first-rounder in 2018 and 2019. If the Los Angeles Lakers hold a pick between No. 2 and No. 5 next season, Boston gets that one. If not, Philadelphia will send Boston either its own first-rounder in 2019 or Sacramento's first-rounder that year."
I haven't found details on this part yet
Anyone know if this means that Boston gets the lower of the picks or vice versa?
If it turns out that Sixers get to choose which pick is sent to Boston (if the Lakers pick next year does not meet the draft criteria) Sixers could be making out like bandits
Imagine -
#1 pick this year
Lakers end up drafting #1 next year - Sixers pick
either Sac's pick or Sixers end up with #1 pick in 2019 - Sixers pick
That being said - I would hope that by 2019 the Sixers will not be in a position to have their own lottery ball bounce to #1
From what I've seen that rumor has no legs -- but that would be a terrible trade. It certainly would not be beyond Colangelo to trade for an overrated veteran that will end up not helping the team win a championship.
If the 2018 Lakers pick is not sent to Boston (not pick 2-5), then the Sacramento one the next year is.
As far as why would Boston do this? I assume they didn't particularly like Futz or didn't view him as a fit on their team. Could he play with Thomas, or would Thomas walk at the end of his contract if they drafted him. So if they figured they would draft Jackson or the like anyways, then they pickup an additional lottery pick and end up with the same player they wanted anyways.....Kind of a no-brainer for them really.
I like the trade for Philly as well. You can only put so many players on the court, so to trade 2 for 1 and get the guy you want that looks like a great fit, it's the right thing to do.
So why did Boston do this trade? It's not an offer that I would say wow that blew them away.
thanks . from the details that was the only thing I thought was either they didnt want to take their player at 1 so figured they could move a few spots and get a few picks -- cause in terms of value its a win for the Sixers esp if the Lakers end up getting the #1 pick next year lol.
Ainge said that he thinks the player that he would have taken at #1 will likely be there at #3.So why did Boston do this trade? It's not an offer that I would say wow that blew them away.
Makes senseI think for the Celtics is was more about opening up cap space (different cap #'s between pick 1 and pick 3). They liked Fultz just fine, but they are looking to add players for a run "now" and opening up the extra cap space to snag one of the free agents helps them much more than a rookie at this point. Plus they are deep at Guard ... so it's not a need position. They can land Jackson who isn't much of a drop off talent wise and a better fit to the team while also getting an extra first. It's really a win/win for both teams imo.
Colandelo wants to get back into the 1st round. Maybe trading Okafor, and a 2nd round to sneak back in?
He is not a good fit for the modern NBA. He has a good low-post game, but that's about it. He is terrible defensively, can't shoot, isn't good on the break or the PnR... etc.SO basically it sounds like Okafor has no trade value what so ever if the Sixers are trying to sneak into the 1st round with him and a 2nd? WTF is that? We drafted the guy with the 3rd overall. He has to be worth more than just sneaking back into the 1st round if traded, no?

Agree. We don't need an older guy, and I think he's a little overrated. We want to keep going young, and hope to build a perennial power that can compete for championships.
Would anyone trade the first pick in the draft straight up for
Kristaps Porzingis?
