Benintendi is second on the team in plate appearances. But he was benched eight times?

This Dirt fella has a real knack for just making up his own history.

Beneditti was benched a few times in the last month for Chris Young

He went about a month being absolutely awful

Who cares if I exaggerate a fact, doesnt change the actual fact

Scouts, Analysts, "Experts", Ex Players, all dis-agree with your assessment of Judge

His pitch recognition and plate discipline is off the charts, and its why his OBP is just silly

Ill go with those other guys, instead of your wishful thinking

He's 25 years old and has hit like this for two months.

He has a little more than twice as many at bats this year as he did last year where he hit .179 with a .263 OBP.

I get it, grain of salt and all. But c'mon. Even you can see that you need to take it down a few notches with the MVP talk.

Ok? He got a few games off. That will happen from time to time in baseball. They've played 57, he's played in 54.

Yes, he had a slow May. After a really good April. And he's having an awesome June. I expect some ebbs and flows with a 22 year old rookie. Don't you?

in 53 games last year he hit 20 HR with a 1.032 OPS
in 30 games this year he has 6 HR and a .776 OPS

Both are relatively small samples and neither are really set a benchmark of what to expect.

FWIW, PECOTA projected him at .260/.323/.480/.803 for 2017. He's young.

Sick

And all Cone and O'Neill kept saying was he was fouling off pitches he should be crushing

Tonight, Torryes will definitely start at 3rd

When he has 2 hits and plays perfect defense all night, do it again tomorrow

The loyalty Girardi shows sometimes is a major weakness of his

Well he hit .191 over 24 starts, but in that time his K% didn't go up, his BB% didn't go down, and his "soft hit ball%" didn't go up. So nothing was really concerning, he wasn't lost up there.

I think he will be a helluva player, I just have to respond to the Sanchez and Judge "Will suck, just because" comments

Someone tells Dirt that Aaron Judge hitting like Miguel Cabrera isn't sustainable and he reads that and hears "doomed for a lifetime of failure"

This dude is funny. Talk about sensitive

I know. Judge won't have a .419 BABIP forever. While his contact numbers are excellent in that he hits the ball hard at a very high rate (5th highest in baseball this year), his BABIP would be the 4th highest ever. Benintendi also is great in his contact numbers, but his BABIP for the year is still below league average. So both will correct themselves over time.

All I really said about Judge was that he has a long swing. Tough to sustain numbers like he's got with a swing like that. Same thing happened with Mark Teixeira. When he was with the Rangers there were people that speculated that he could be an all-timer. That fell apart not long after he turned 30.

Judge will always have power. But with that swing, he's going to be a one-dimensional hitter. Just like Teixeira.

It's impossible to sustain his numbers no matter what. As I said, his BABIP will correct itself, but he walks a lot and hits the ball really freaking hard.

He's not going to be Cabrera because he strikes out too much. And Teixeira didn't hit the ball as consistently hard has Judge has been doing so while his power may dip in his early 30s like Teixeira, the result won't be as bad as what we saw from Teixeira. Combine the fact that they get Judge from age 25-30 at the very least, and they are going to get him at his best. I'd say there is certainly reason to be excited for Yankees fans. Nothing he has done indicates that he is going to fall off a cliff any time soon.

I wouldn't go that far.

Everything he did last season indicated that he was destined for a career in refrigerator repair.

Now some people are handing him the MVP award after 180 at bats.

Last year was a mere 95 plate appearances. Anyone who wrote him off last year was an idiot. His K% was waaaaaay higher than anything he had done in his professional career. He wasn't going to strikeout 44% of the time. Combine that with his hard hit ball to soft hit ball ratio, and his BABIP was about 70 points lower than expected.

This year, his K% has corrected itself to match the 1500 plate appearances he had in the minors. The difference is this year his BABIP is well over (about 60 points) of what is expected based on his hard hit to soft hit ball ratio. So that will correct itself, but not to the point where he's Mark Teixeira from 2011-retirement.
