Regardless of this vapid debate, Miguel Cabrera is the best hitter in the last 30 years.

With no Bonds on the list I will go with Miggy.

You forgot Chipper.

141 OPS+ ties him with Ortiz, but I'm just gonna assume your racism against white people is why he was left off.

Chipper was a very complete hitter. If not for the chronic bunion that affected the last 6 years of his career, he'd have even better stats. To show how adaptable he was, he had a rib cage injury near the end of his career that kept him from taking a full swing. He changed his approach and hit .368 and still hit 18 hr. He could have been the best contact hitter in baseball if he'd made that his priority.

This discussion is about "hitters" though, not "position players" or "offensive performers" (I wasn't sure what expression to use there, sounds more like Andrew Dice Clay or something hahaha). Those general points aren't wrong, they just don't seem to pertain to this argument.

Sure it pertains to hitting, that's ALL my points pertain to.
I did mention the fact Aaron actually had a very slightly higher stolen base success rate than Mays in another thread, but not in this one.
Mays was a great player and iconic media darling when nobody outside of core fans paid attention to the very quiet and low key Aaron, but Aaron was the better player.

Out of the guys listed, I don't think that's really a crazy thing to suggest. He was either 1 or 2 in OPS+ in 7 seasons (consecutively). Looking at the list and ranking them by how many times they did that (not consecutive, just overall):

Pujols: 7
Manny: 5
Cabrera: 5
Jones: 3
Thome: 2
Griffey: 1
Ortiz: 1

I said in another post that I think Thomas, Pujols, Manny, and Cabrera are very close.

But I still take Bonds even though he isn't listed. Who accomplished that 7 times from 1990-1998 and led the league 9 times, something only Cobb, Hornsby, and Ruth did more.
I greatly enjoyed watching Manny Ramirez hit. He made it look absolutely effortless.

Yeah, I mean Willie cost himself an extra 0.15 stolen bases over his entire 22 season career with his lower rate. What a difference

My point SHOULD be clear.
Mays is always given credit for his base running over Aaron, but he just ran more often.
He had 98 more stolen bases but his rate of success was practically identical to Aaron's.

And by running more often he created more value for his teams. Which is why he is given more credit for it.

The only white guy worth a piss is Dale Watson.

Why are we all acting like we're not currently watching maybe the best player of all time?

Give it time.

I believe Trout will be an all time great, but look at what has happened to Andrew McCutchen in what should be his prime years.

The answer is Barry Bonds.
Without question.

Just righties, I'd take Pujols over Cabrera.

But Roided up Pujols, not some shitty clean version. And before he was 45 or whatever he is now.

You know, since the beginning of 2016, nobody has driven in more runs in the AL than that old man. Crazy.

AP stopped hitting about the time the rumors of PEDs started. Now he's his old self again, it makes me wonder if he was dirty most of his career.

As much as it gags me to say it, I might have to take A-rod if we're talking right handed batters.

But Freeman needs to take whatever steroids Pujols was on to come back from a broken wrist in two weeks. Adams has swung the bat well, but he'd no Freeman.

Switch hitter goes to Chipper though, beches.

A week ago it was total bases.

Make up your mind.

Both are very important, they isolate a hitter from RBIs and other things that are connected to team performance.
I would also like to multiply stolen bases by success rate and add it to total bases to get a really good figure. If a player is unsuccessful in half of their attempts I wouldn't give any credit though. At that point it becomes a clear negative. Even better might be using just the number above 50%, so 100 steals with an 80% rate adds 30 pts.

It's a damn shame FF broke his wrist just when he's put it all together. I just hope it doesn't stunt him.
