“Hunter is one of those guys who comes in and says, ‘I feel great. I’m ready to go,’” Bochy said. “I’m saying this in a good way, not a negative way, but we’ve lost a little trust in him when he says he’s ready to go. It’s up to me to adjust his playing time.”

I get that these guys are competitive but when it hurts the team they need to realize that and stop the "trying to play through it" mentality.

Call up Mac and be done with it. Pence is already almost half way through his DL stint if he doesn't appear in a game.

They can't. That opens the door to kid like Mac (or Slater, or Ruggiano, or Heathcott, or Shaw or...).

He appeared in the Saturday game as a PH, didn't he?

Not guys like Pence. He's got a guaranteed spot in the lineup. It would be different if his numbers were awful but they are not. He has the ability to say "Coach I need some downtime to heal" and be confident that his spot on the team will not change. Now, if we were talking about Gorkys . . .

Current ideal lineup...

Span CF
Panik 2B
Belt 1B
Posey C
Crawford SS
Arroyo 3B
Mac RF
Ruggiano LF

That actually is not bad at all.

Stubbs cleared waivers and the Giants cut him loose.

He then signed with Texas on a minor league deal.

Aaron Hill has started his rehab assignment with San Jose. What do you all think will happen when he has to be activated? Does he get dfa'd? Do the Giants dfa either Morse, Ruggiano or Hernandez? Or does Arroyo get optioned back to the RiverCats?

What purpose does Morse fill at this point? If he is so awesome in the clubhouse, hire him as a clubhouse boy. He needs to be the first on the chopping block.

Sure, Arroyo is struggling with the bat, but his energy and defense more than make up for it. And his bat isn't useless like Morse's.

All that said, I am not sure what the point of activating Hill would be. I would rather DFA both Morse and Hill and call up Slater or Heathcott.

Unfortunately, that scenario probably won't happen. Can't have too few veterans to presence the dugout. I do think that Arroyo goes down and they give a long leash for both Hill and Morse. However, I won't be too surprised if Ruggiano goes on the chopping block, even though he's done better offensively than Hill or Hernandez. I think there is an outside chance that Hill, Morse or Hernandez get dfa'd but I see those as the least likely of the scenarios.

I don't think Yo is going back down. He is our current and future 3B.

Do you see Hill getting dfa'd when its time for him to come off the dl? If not, who is gone?
Would have to be Morse or Gorkys. But all three fill different roles on the team.

One brings veteran presence, the other brings veteran presence and the third scrappy veteran presence.
Right. See?

Seriously, though..

Morse = power bat off the bench (but does he really?)

Gorkys = ++ OF defense (despite the defensive year he has shown us so far)

Hill = defensive flexibility (don't we have that in Nunez and KT already?)

IMHO, Gorkys is the only one that really has any business on the roster, and even that is by a shoestring because he has performed like shit. And Ruggiano plays CF, which is the only job security I think Gorkys really has.
