He hasn't had experience in the Seahawks system. I'll take Boykin as the backup and be glad the Seahawks aren't throwing away good money on a failed QB like Kaep.
You never know if Boykin will be suspended or arrested...dudes bad news.

Kaep has a 60% completion percentage as a starter and a solid TD to int ratio...as a starter. Kaep should be the goal as a backup

Boykin off field trouble are concerning, it's about the only reason there is a question about who the backup should be. On the field Boykin fit like a glove. As for Kaep, he's a one read and run QB, not interested in him at all.

The problem I see if with Seattle is their oline. If the oline plays anything like the past couple of years, Kaep would have a difficult time. The author isn't accurate. While Kaep might make a couple of improvisational plays a game, that isn't his strength. He isn't quick and shifty like Wilson to avoid defenders. He is a north south runner that is dangerous once he gets running full speed in open space. For Kaep to function, he needs a good clean pocket in front of him. When he is constantly pressured, he just breaks down. He does not process things quickly on the field and has a slow delivery. His stats are very different when he is pressured versus when there is no pressure.

Well last year Wilson did get hurt and Boykin did fine when he came in and played. Now he's got a year experience under his belt. Let him come to camp as the clear cut backup ( unlike last year where he had to fight for the role and share snaps) and he'll be that much better and the Seahawks should be set at that position.

Wasn't it for like a quarter or 2 that he played though ? I"m trying to remember how much time Wilson missed because I know it wasn't much...

I actually posted that more for all the positive shit the Seahawks had to say about Kaepernick. But for sure Kaepernick and Wilson are different types, but Wilson himself was banged up all year.

Boykin is unknown territory.

It wasn't a lot. I know he played against the 49ers and looked fine. Boykin very much fits in this offense, no changes need to made when he enters the game. Another camp should really help also. Guess the big question is can he keep out of trouble, if so then the Seahawks can continue to develop him and be set at the backup position for a long time and at a inexpensive cost. Bringing in a QB from another organization means teaching him the system, seeing if the offense needs to be changed when he enters the game, seeing if they can actually adapt to a offense system they haven't played in before and at the end perhaps discovering it's not working and be back to where they started.
I'm all for the Seahawks developing their own back up and not adopting someone else castoff.

Ed Zachary. Everybody was shocked at how little time Wilson missed, and I put it down to no confidence in Boykin, combined with some tough stuff from the Wee One.

And folks call Garropolo's body of work a small sample size......

Having a back-up veteran player though gives you a better chance, unless of course your developing back-up ends up being a stud, which is possible, but very unlikely when you consider how many young QB's just don't pan out.... I would feel way more comfortable with a back-up that has playoff experience, like Kaep for example, sure he's not elite, but no back-up in the NFL usually is ... Kaep fits that running style, has been through and won tight playoff games, dam near won a Super-Bowl, scared the hell outta us in the NFC title game... I mean the guy has proven he can play, sure he's had a couple down years, but he's only 29, still has time to clean it up and working with Wilson and Carroll could help him allot ... Again though, Kaep would have to take a massive pay cut to come here, so it's hard to imagine, but who knows..... I just read that the Seahawks did reach out to his agent....

Their interest has gone beyond that — Seahawks GM John Schneider reached out to Kaepernick’s agent last week, according to Mike Silver of the NFL Network.

Kaep experience is a mixed bag. He's gone from one offensive system to another, mastering none of them. I don't think he's very confident in his skills after getting demoted a couple of times and the coaching staff trying to rework how he plays. If he came to the Seahawks it would be one more system to learn, if he can and by no means is he similar to RW and at 29 I won't count on his running being much help and that's not what OC want from a QB IMO. The whole idea reeks.

He 29 and that was a different offensive system then the Seahawks have. He'd have to learn the Seahawks system from scratch. Much rather just develop Boykin.
