I'd rather go Patty Mills ... cheaper/younger (3 years younger) and a damn good shooter. Plus if Simmons is going to have the ball in his hands as much as I expect, Mills may be the better compliment. Mills if I am not mistaken is unrestricted.

Another good option, but I'm confident other teams will be throwing around gobs of money at both of these players. BC cannot chase.

Mills and Brett Brown have a personal relationship from when Brown was with the Spurs. Mills has spoken very highly of Brown and that could be a big advantage this off season. Also has the Australia connection with Ben Simmons.

Excellent points.
I don't think we can overlook the international flavor of this team.

If the team can invest in players that aren't in it for the money, all kinds of things are possible.

Really? Who?

Sportrac says they have 12 signed players for 2017 at $82.8M.
2 are non-guaranteed and take up roughly $8M.
They can sign one max FA.
If a FA goes to LAL, it's to get paid, not to go to the playoffs.
They need defensive help.

The word is that Paul George will sign with them as a free agent or a trade.

His FA is the following year.
If they trade for him this year, they would have to give up parts of their young core which defeats the purpose of investing in him anyway.

I don't believe he makes that team a playoff team, especially if they have to trade away two or more of their current assets.

Lowry will get the max from someone, or close to it anyway. The Raptors have just about gone on record saying they want him back, and are willing to go over the tax to keep him. But I can see him taking a slight hometown discount if Philly is really where he wants to be.

Let's put it this way, if guys like Allen Crabbe and Evan Turner are getting $17M/yr, Lowry is guaranteed to get somewhere between $20-25M, whether its Philly, Toronto, or wherever.

I like Mills too, but Lowry is a bonafide star. He's a top 20 player in the league. He changes the outlook for this team next year. Like knowyourenemy said before in this thread, Lowry makes you the favorite among the Boston/Washington/Milwaukee group to be the 2 seed and eastern conference finalist next year.

Lowry is legit. DeRozan is our best player talent wise, but Lowry has been the most valuable to the Raptors the last 3-4 years. Great leader and I think would really do well with the collection of young guys in Philly. Losing him would be a big blow and even worse if we lose him to an up and coming conference rival.

Reminder Draft Lottery tonight at 8:30. Not holding by breath on us getting the Lakers pick ... but even at worse case scenario of getting pick 6 we should be able to snag a good prospect to add to the mix. I see 9 really good prospects this year ... if we get lucky enough to get that Laker's pick I'll be dancing a jig.

I have this very strange feeling that the Sixers are going get the pick tonight. Not sure why, just a gut feeling?

It's better than a coin clip, so it shouldn't be strange.
I believe LAL 4-6 in 2017 will be better than the LAL 2018 unprotected pick.

Yes, there would be a chance to get top 3 in 2018, but I think LAL will do better without the incentive to lose and they will add a top 3 player from 2017. Their defense will still be awful, but when you factor in teams like the Suns, Magic, and Nets, and probably another two teams that might want to tank on purpose or lose out on FA, there is also the risk the pick will be worse.

I would rather have the Lakers pick this year as well instead of unprotected next year ... no guarantee that next year is 9 deep with prospects. I still worry about the draft being totally on the up and up and worry that it would "benefit" the league if the Lakers end up with a top 3 pick.

I've covered this in another thread.

Each lottery team sends a representative to the actual drawing behind closed doors.

If the balls are weighted, the same ones would come up on the three draws, unless they can switch them out in expert fashion. Given the billion dollar operation that the NBA is, all it takes is one tiny little crack for someone to flip and out the NBA on a rigged lottery. That would be worth millions to this individual.

It sounds great as a conspiracy theory, but there are those that also wear tin foil hats for good luck...

Just enjoy the Process.

Just wish I knew exactly how the Sixers will use Simmons ... my hope is as a Point PF/SF as opposed to actually running the Point as has been hinted at. What is your guy's opinion on Jayson Tatum as a prospect?

I wonder if they've been intentionally unclear on how Simmons will be used.

Yup, hopefully Silver hanging Hinkie on the cross was enough for the league not to screw us here.

I see Tatum as the most NBA-ready and less likely to be a bust, but maybe not as high a ceiling as some of the more freakish athletes like Isaac or Jackson.
