Since it says "favorite" and "rock," I'll list the groups from that genre that I can listen to all day long without getting tired of them:

the who
Marshall Tucker Band
Ten Years After
The Doors
Little Feat
Queen
Molly Hatchet
Yes
Outlaws
The Police

And here's a few others that I like a lot, but can only take in small doses anymore:

The Cars

You guys plucked all of the obvious low-hanging fruit. In fact, any mindless fuck (who didn't know shit about music) could've just googled a list to come up with what most of you posted.

Good to see somebody finally mentioned The Ramones. It took long enough.

Three all-time great bands that you guys missed.

Hard to imagine there had been no mention of:

Sex Pistols
Iggy Pop/Stooges
Wendy O./Plasmatics

Cultural literacy is a beautiful thing.

Agreed. Very difficult to limit my favorites to just 20

I already listed 40 and still left out Rod Stewart, Elton John, The Eagles, and a host of others

I had trouble remembering 20...lol then I look at others list and Oh, I forgot so and so...I'm a bit a blues guys too.

Note...I saw Clapton live in PHI in the mid 90s after unplugged was released...possibly the best concert I've seen in person.

A lot of Pop-Rock in these lists. I'm cool with a lot of that stuff, but my taste sweet spot is a bit harder and less mainstream.

1) System of a Down
2) Korn
3) Slipknot
4) Disturbed
5) Avenged Sevenfold (by the way, I'll be at their concert TONIGHT).

Some more:
Amberian Dawn (with vocalist Heidi Parviainen)
Deftones
Godsmack
KISS ('74-'77)
Metallica
Static-X
Tool
Van Halen ('78-'84)

Listing only 20 wasn't enough for me so I added an additional 20. I have seen Clapton live as well, the Journeyman tour. Just cant remember what year it was, I wanna say it was in '87 or '88 though. Of the 40 artists I listed I have seen...Floyd, BB King, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Buddy Guy, Taj Mahal, Magic Slim, Charlie Musselwhite, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, John Mellencamp, Steve Miller Band, GnR, Metallica, AC/DC, Red Hot Chili Peppers, ZZ top & Green Day all live.

Wow...extensive list! A lot of the old legends are touring again...(my boss thinks they have run out of money...lol) The Stones were recently here, several others.

I saw Kiss, Def Leopard live...I might have to recant that on Clapton being the best...Santana at Chastain was outstanding too, different genre but in his day Prince was a crazy stage performer.

I did see BB at a small night club, probably 20' from stage...my top 3 (make that 4) guitarist in no particular order...Clapton, Hendrix, Joe Walsh, Stevie Ray.
