Well sure. You're pretty much an Einstein to figure that out so fast.

The first list was crap because of game time rankings.
The second list was crap for only going back to 2007 and not breaking it out by career and current school.

Anything else albert.

The second list isn't crap for only going back to 2007, it's just limited and only matters in that context. But in it's context it's a good list. In the context of the 1st list, it's crap.

You have to go by end of season rankings.
Ranking at game time is meaningless.

Lets just pick a coach at random.....say Bob Stoops...

Oklahoma loses to unranked Nebraska in 2009. Nebraska finishes ranked.
Oklahoma loses to unranked Texas Tech in 2009. Texas Tech finishes unranked.
Oklahoma beats a ranked Kansas in 2009. Kansas finishes unranked.
Oklahoma beats a ranked OSU in 2009. OSU finishes unranked.
Oklahoma beats a ranked Texas in 2010. Texas finishes freaking (5-7) unranked.
Oklahoma loses to unranked Texas A&M in 2010. A&M finishes ranked.
Oklahoma beats a ranked UConn in 2010. UConn finishes unranked.

Game time rankings:
Bob Stoops gets credit for (4-0) in those 7 games vs top 25 teams.

Season Ending rankings:
Bob Stoops in reality has an (0-3) record with those 7 games vs. top 25 teams.

That is huge swing in "Big Game?" Bobs gaudy record.

Ferentz's teams aren't known as the teams that upsets the Top 25, but I bet a large majority of the 34 losses had <7 pont differential. So, they are known as the team that no team can overlook, even in down years.

I'll take that bet!

Two views:
Original list (game rank)
Of the 34 losses only 9 were by less than 7 points and only 12 were by 7 points or less.
1. 2010 Wisconsin (30.00-31.00)
2. 2006 Texas (24.00-26.00)
3. 2009 Ohio St. (24.00-27.00)
4. 2006 Wisconsin (21.00-24.00)
5. 2010 Ohio St. (17.00-20.00)
6. 1999 Minnesota (21.00-25.00)
7. 2007 Wisconsin (13.00-17.00)
8. 2001 Michigan (26.00-32.00)
9. 2012 Nebraska (7.00-13.00)
10. 2010 Arizona (27.00-34.00)
11. 2005 Florida (24.00-31.00)
12. 2013 LSU (14.00-21.00)
11 games were lost by 21 or more points.

Second list using yearly rankings.
Of the 37 losses to yearly ranked teams only 11 were by less than 7 points and only 13 were by 7 or less points.
1. 2010 Wisconsin (30.00-31.00)
2. 2006 Texas (24.00-26.00)
3. 2009 Ohio St. (24.00-27.00)
4. 2006 Wisconsin (21.00-24.00)
5. 2010 Ohio St. (17.00-20.00)
6. 2008 Michigan St. (13.00-16.00)
7. 1999 Minnesota (21.00-25.00)
8. 2007 Wisconsin (13.00-17.00)
9. 2001 Michigan (26.00-32.00)
10. 2012 Nebraska (7.00-13.00)
11. 2000 Wisconsin (7.00-13.00)
12. 2005 Florida (24.00-31.00)

Ooops, I miscounted. Iowa did lose 38 and not 37 as I stated.

I don't really count Ferentz's 1st 2 seasons when I said that, which includes 10 losses vs ranked teams. He didn't have anything established and wasn't given a great team by Fry.

2010 (UR): #9 Iowa lost by 7 to #24 AZ (UR); #13 Iowa lost by 1 to #10 Wis (#7); #21 Iowa lost by 3 to #8 tOSU (#5)
2011 (UR): Iowa lost by 16 to #13 Mich St (#11); Iowa lost by 13 to #22 Neb (#24); Iowa lost by 17 to #19 Okla (#16)

Since Ferentz’s 3rd season
Lost by a TD or less = 13
Lost by > TD = 16

Last 7 seasons (Since 2008, 1/2 the period since 3rd season)
Lost by a TD or less = 8
Lost by > TD = 7

I should have said by 2 TDs (14 points) or less

By 2 TDs or less = 21
By > 14 = 8
