Your Childhood Sports Idol

We're all sports nuts here right? I suspect we have been since we were little. Did you have a sports idol growing up? If so who was it/they?

Mine was Bobby Orr. Whenever I played hockey, I always imagined I was him. I had favorite players in the other sports but Bobby was THE guy since I was 6 and still is to this day.

For me it was Cam Neely. I did the same thing as you with Orr, imagining I was Neely when I played. I had three posters of him hanging in my room, some other collectibles propped up on my bureau. He was like a god to me.

I remember seeing the Bruins play the Habs when I was 9 or 10 years old. Claude Lemieux was still there and he was a Bruins killer that I loathed. During the pregame skate I walked right up to the glass to get a close look. Every time Neely circled past I screamed, "Neely, get Lemieux!! Crush Lemieux, Cam!!" After the fourth or fifth time he looked at me and laughed. Made my week.

Seriously, I would go with my cuz Pat Dobson that pitched in MLB for the Tigers and O's when they had four 20 game winners. He being one of them and had a better record than Palmer one year. RIP Pat.
