I think this option works best. I can't think of too much complaining from any school outside of the newbies

There is no way in hell that would work. The disparity in travel costs is what kills it.

Inner/Outer is actually interesting if you go to 9 games. At that point there really aren't any huge rivalries to protect because most of them are already divisional games. If you rotate through 3 cross-divisional teams every two years, you won't go so incredibly long without playing one team, and for the most part you can probably set it up so that each team is playing at least one of the bigger powers from the other division.

As an ND fan and CFB fan in general I really hope the B1G doesn't go to 9 games. Only reason they would is to stick it to Notre Dame, which wouldn't surprise me. OOC games are good for CFB, would be much better if they didn't allow teams to play FCS schools.

Or to maintain the rivalries and tradition; in other words the goose that laid the golden egg, instead of expanding and creating a conference schedule that feels hollow and causes the fans to slowly lose interest.

Notre Dame is the second biggest rival to 3 B1G teams(Mich, Mich St, PU). Plus, the B1G is in need of some OOC rivals other than the MAC teams they play every year. The Mich St. rivalry started in the late 1800s.

Michigan and Notre Dame are no longer playing every year. Also, keep in mind you said "second."

Which is a fuckin shame, the matchup shouldn't be done forever though. Second of only three though, losing 33% of your rivals is a big deal IMO. I just don't see the need for 9 conference games. Conference pride is huge right now and what better way to prove you're better than in front of your home crowd as opposed to 1,000 miles away in a bowl game?

East/West

Yeah the East would have a better "big 3"... but so what, these things change over time. And the bottom four of the East would also be worse (teams like Iowa or even Northwestern can pull off a good win here and there).

East: Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan, Maryland, Rutgers, Indiana, Illinois

West: Nebraska, Wisconsin, MSU, Iowa, Purdue, Minnesota, Northwestern

Yes I know that Illinois is west of MSU and Purdue, but flipped them for balance and to keep the Illibuck game. With OSU and Michigan in the same division, obviously Michigan/MSU is the protected crossover. And with Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa in the same division, I would hope that Wisconsin/OSU and Nebraska/PSU could also be protected crossovers.

That would also neutralize the balance argument a bit, since the top 3 teams in each division would all be paired off in crossover games.
