its easier to find an OF....(Almonte, Soriano, Ichiro...whoever to replace Garner)...a 2b like phillips is in less supply....

They are not even close to the same player because of positional value and depth.

The Yankees could sign Ellis or Infante at a better price. In fact, they're probably better players at this point.

Ellis no way, Infante could go either way but still 10 million a year for 4 years???...but there definately are more OF to replace Gardner available than 2b.

I don't buy into Ellsbury definitely going to get injury. His 2 baseball injuries were pretty rare in terms of baseball injuries.

Agreed, I do think his injury history is exaggerated.

Phillips 12-13: .271/.315/.412, 96 OPS+
Ellis: .264/.328/.357, 93 OPS+

Phillips has more power than Ellis (though his power numbers are still kinda below league average), but Ellis managed a higher OBP. And Ellis has played in a much tougher ballpark than Phillips. They both rate as plus defenders (though Ellis does have a higher UZR/150 and has 10 more DRS).

To BP's credit, he has been pretty durable. He has 8 consecutive seasons of 140+ games played at 2B. Ellis has missed considerable time.

Phillips might be better, but I just don't think the gap is much if at all.
