if it was October then the correct answer would be the 2004 yankees

but the question is September... that would easily be the 2007 Mets, they were expected to be a WS team...

the 64 Phils are a no brainer for this. I can't even believe you don't have them on the list.

I posted a comment saying I think I left the worst one off. I was born in 91 and had never heard mention of the 64 Phillies until I did some research on this topic after posting

Rangers were 5 games ahead of the A's on September 24, 2012. They blew the division in Game 162. The A's were 26-35 in early June before they went on a huge tear. They were also 13 games back at the end of June. They were 3.5 back of Texas on July 28.

They were expected to be a WS team in 2006 until CARLOS FUCKING BELTRAN STOOD THERE LIKE A FUCKING STATUE!!!!!!!!! I will never ever forgive that fucking clown for not at least trying to hit the ball. And I don't want to hear any bullshit about what a perfect pitch by Wainwright that was and how it buckled that POS Beltran! I watched the game.

I'd say Steve Traschel was more to blame than Beltran. And Wagner (remember the Taguchi home run?). Mets lineup didn't do a whole lot outside of Game 4 either.

Looking like the Twins might be in the process of it.

Baldumbass thought we had it clinched and has punted 2 games since Sunday

Barely won the other two in between.

Now down 3-0 to the Royals tonight
