Just read that Volquez was NOT informed on the request of his wife that his father had passed away until AFTER he had pitched last night.

Weird.

Personally I would want to know immediately and would be having some marital problems if the wife pulled something like that.

It's not really a must win game but I think tonight is pretty much a must win game for the Mets. The Royals are just too good of a team to beat 4 times in 5 days in my opinion.

Game 2 is def a must win for the Mets. Ace vs worst starter in the playoffs is something the Mets have to take advantage of to win the series

I wouldn't call it a must win but going down 0-2 with our two aces pitching, that would be pretty demoralizing. We saw this happen to the Cubs in the last round.

Cueto has been good in KC. He sucks away from KC which is why they have him pitching tonight so the next time he will be needed is G6 back in KC

2.96 Home ERA isn't too bad at all, actually, and DeGrom's away ERA is 3.09. DeGrom's Night ERA is also much higher than his day ERA. Go figure.

CUETO VS. DEGROM IN GAME 2
Down 1-0 in the World Series, the Mets will hand the ball to their ace, Jacob deGrom for Game 2 on Wednesday. The Royals will counter with Johnny Cueto, who has struggled so far this postseason.

Lagares has definitely earned the start. He had some of the best at-bats last night for NY...and it goes without saying that he would have collected that leadoff fly ball.

That was a long game last night. Gordon saved the Royals from a game 1 loss at home. Ive never much cared for the Mets so put em away again KC

Well, the wife instructed the Royals to not inform him until after the game. My understanding is the father died a few hours before the game.

I would like to think the KC pitcher and his wife formulated a plan that IF the pitcher's father were to become ill or die on the pitcher's day to pitch then the wife was to wait with the bad news until after he was done pitching for the night. Wouldn't doubt IF the Dad were in on the deal as well.
