Canada leads Italia 2-1 after one period. Kris Russell scored a beauty on the PP.

4 minute PP for Canada. Ruhroh.

That looked like a PP consisting of five guys who hadn't played together prior to this game. Oh well, it's not going to matter in today's game.

The Italian goalie's last name is Bellissimo. He's made some beauty saves in this game since coming in.

He's raised my eyebrows. I think the NHL/AHL may keep start to keep an eye on him for the tournament. He's made some good NHL quality saves.

Lol. Italy has a Massachusttes guy on the team.

They also had a guy from Trail, B.C. (Trevor Johnson). Yet Marco Giordano plays for Canada. Good stuff.

hmm.. just watching the game...
my god this is piss poor hockey compared to the playoffs.
probably a function of the competition / first game, etc.
presumably it gets better as the tournament goes on.

I think players with less skill (skating, stick-handling etc.) on a larger ice surface makes the game a lot tougher to watch. Just my 2 cents.

Only until the Michigan, Michigan State game which is going to be played at Michigan's football stadium.
Might get over 100,000.

I heard douchebag extraordinaire Bill Simolson say that the game has already sold over 100,000.... but then again, I drop turds that know more about hockey than he does.

Canada faces Latvia today. they are sure easing into the tourney.
Hopefully they can get the powerplay operational today.

TSN interview talking to Stamkos about his leadership role (he's wearing an A), "blah blah blah hopefully I can help out the younger group". dude, you're 20.
the funny thing is, there actually IS a younger group. 5 or 6 players are younger than Stamkos on the team.

Best hockey fans in the world (and I'm not referring to the Canadian supporters). I can hear the Latvian drums and horns already :)
