NFL teams are at a profit before they sell their first ticket, from TV revenue alone
MLB has 162 games, and an average of about 35,000 fans per game
NBA - i have no idea, and don't really care to research it.

Well they can support the AHL Admirals and have gotten over 15k in fans a few times last season. I know the NHL is a whole different ball game but that's really the only comparison I have. I don't see why Wisconsin would be able to handle the NFL, NBA, MLB, AHL and all the minor league teams that go with those sports but couldn't handle an NHL team.

I read some articles that say the NHL thinks Milwaukee is oversaturated. That may be so, but NHL hockey would be big in Milwaukee I don't care what anybody says.

That's interesting considering there isn't even an NFL team in Milwaukee. Yeah yeah I know, but still......

But you have to figure if there is enough corp support for teams in each of the three other leagues, there should be enough for an NHL team.

I got the name and logo for Wisconsin's hockey team:

The Wisconsin Wedgies!

OK, so the colors are stolen from the Rangers, but that can be changed.

yes, I do agree with that.

oops, too late to edit..

my original point was, the NHL and MLB does not need corporate sponsorship to succeed, whereas the NHL certainly does.
not saying that Wisc doesn't have that support, just that the comparison between the sports doesn't necessarily imply that support.

I'll assume you meant NFL and MLB. And I agree with that. But I doubt the Bucks would be in a city like Milwaukee if there was no corporate support. A MLB team may not need corporate support, like the NHL would, but most of the time a team wouldn't stay in a city with none either.

Who knows though. I think a NHL team would do fine in Milwaukee compared to like Phoenix. But I don't know if Milwaukee is a better bet than Winnipeg, Quebec City or Toronto...

yes, NFL and MLB. Thx for the correction. honest, I am sober.

while I am far from an expert on the region, Wisconsin's hockey support (minor up through collegiate) reminds me of Minnesota. absolutely rabid.
and if the Wild can sell out for so many years with the dreadfully boring and recently shitty product on the ice, Wisconsin should be fine.

See, I don't think the Wild are all that popular. Yeah, they sell out games, but it's seriously gotta be the same 50,000 people rotating in and out. Nobody I talk to in this state likes hockey, and I can't freaking figure out why. Everyone loves the Twins. Everyone loves the Vikings. We all pretend the Timberwolves don't exist (though in fairness, I personally am actually pretending the entire NBA doesn't exist). I go to my first hockey game last year and it's the first time I've seen more than three Wild fans at the same time.

Worst part is the Flyers lost the game...:(

interesting from the Chicago article:

The NBA, for instance, receives about $930 million per year from its national broadcasting partners.

In contrast, the NHL receives between $200 million and $300 million per year from Canadian and U.S. broadcasts. Split among the league's 30 franchises, that equals less than $10 million per team per year.

Maybe you should get out more.

1 NHL team.

4 WCHA teams.

9 MIAC College teams.

Too many for me to count, registered High School Hockey teams.

Too many for me to count, registered USA Hockey teams.

The largest attended State High School Tournament in the country, which set a new attendance record this year.

That's just the boy's and men's hockey. I won't get into girl's and women's hockey.

I agree. I grew up playing in a million tourneys in Minnesota. They show more Highschool hockey games on TV than my state shows NHL games.

The Wisconsin Cheese Badgers would be great. It would certainly make more sense to have a team there than two in Florida.

The Panthers should move to Milwaukee. Tallon can compete against his old team a few hours south, there's a natural rival from Minnesota, they could use Muskegon as their farm team and ship players across on the lake ferry, and they could call themselves the Wisconsin Dahmers. I love it.

Isn't Milwaukee known for bratwursts and other sausages? The Wisconsin Weiners has a nice ring to it. I cannot see how that wouldn't be a great looking uniform.
