“Nobody is happy with the current format so I would expect something like this is going to be adopted,” said a league executive, speaking on the condition of anonymity.

I like the current format...

Dreger

Wpg expected to announce the name of its team just prior to making the 7th selection overall. Unconfirmed as to what the name will be.

i really hope they have a jersey ready too because Id feel bad for the kid getting an NHL logo jersey (doesnt look good on the organization either)

you can only call them the Winnipeg Jets, thats their team and its only right to allow new generations to experience the Jets name, even if it means more losing seasons :D

Ok, to be clear, I've always been a Penguins fan first. I was born and raised in Pittsburgh and moved to Atlanta last year. I began going to Thrashers games and they really grew on me. Then all of a sudden, they're gone. I still really liked the players and coaches, so I still wanted to support them. Now that the new ownership has raped what Atlanta has put into the franchise, I'm disgusted.

There weren't a whole lot of Thrashers fans at the end of their run, but the ones that stuck around are TRUE hockey fans and didn't need what feels like a slap in the face with the coaching changes, the franchises history was erased, etc.

So now I hope this thing fails as much as Dany Heatley during a driving test. Cheers!

while i think its great that the use of manitoba makes the team inclusive for the entire province ... I dont think the NHL wants this

I forget who it was ... might have been Mike Russo (of all people considering the team he covers is similar geographically to manitoba) who said the place name Manitoba conjures up images of back bacon for many americans

My wife was a Thrashers fan and she decided to support them through the move and in their new home. It probably helps that she has no ties to Atlanta and viewed the move as inevitable at some point.

That's honestly how I should have handled. I just needed to vent, haha.

It's rough because I now have to make the drive to Nashville to catch some games. It's even worse because my Penguins aren't even it their conference this year (assuming they may be restructured for 12-13). The Ramsey firing was the breaking point for me.

I have to say, if I'm in the marketing department there, I'd sell my soul to have a third jersey come out with the home/away this year. Sounds too early, but this is when the selling is the hottest, and it adds another 25-35% in sales.

Dreger originally tweeted Manitoba Jets, has since corrected it to be Winnipeg Jets. Um, when Stephen Brunt broke the story of the Thrashers sale to True North, you were all over him for "jumping the gun". You can't even get the proposed name of the team right.

What a clown Dreger is.

I can see why you feel the way you do. If we had any ties at all to Atlanta I can see her feeling the same way.

I do not get the Ramsey firing, I thought he did OK with the talent he had.

Looks like they just wanted to start fresh and cut all ties to the Atlanta franchise. I liked Craig Ramsay as a player, and I think he is a good coach. It's a tough business at times.

Kypreos said last night on Sportsnet that it was going to be Winnipeg Jets (exact words were he "got the impression it was going to be Winnipeg Jets")

He has gotten alot of them correct lately ... he had Bryz signing dollar amount ... flyers added the final 2 years

So, do they rock an old school Jets jersey for their first draft pick tonight?!? I wonder how many Jets fans will be in attendance, methinks it's going to be loud.

If they are going with Jets, I do hope it was what True North wanted all along and not because they felt pressured into it. Also a new logo and sweater design would be a good idea.
