I dont want to give him away for nothing either

In the end, the best pens offer was sutter, this years first and next years second

That would be nothing imo

Of course it doesn't help matters when Kesler would only waive his NTC for a select few teams. But who handed out the NTC in the first place (in order to shave some dollars from the contract, yeah I get it).

It's a pickle.

That was it? Everything I heard had one of the top D prospects involved too (Despres, Duomolin, Pouliot, etc).

For the Pens, I'll give a B- on the day. I honestly love both pick ups, because, well, have you seen our bottom 6 lately? It'd have been a B+ if they had picked up a cheap veteran Dman (which didn't exist today clearly). The Pens now have three respectable lines, which was probably Shero's goal going into today. When healthy (which should be going into the playoffs), I like the team. They can get out of the East.

I was disappointed by Anaheim today. They just seemed primed to make a big move to become the favorites, and they stood pat essentially. I think that this deadline showed how the cap made issues for some teams (although not ANA, who had alllll the cap space). The only loser, to me, was the Isles. I really liked Buffalo's moves. A lot. Most contenders stood pat for the most part, so it'll be interesting.

I was just the opposite of Anaheim - not disappointed. This gives them room to get more minutes to Silfverberg, Palmieri, and even Etem. They didn't need to add that one offensive rental - they are the third highest scoring team in the league already. Just because you have the cap space doesn't mean you have to spend up to it (unless your name is Glen Sather). The Ducks look to be in very good shape for the foreseeable future and are lucky to have a decent GM who knows what he's doing.

I'm just happy the Sens didn't gut their deep prospect pool to get a rental. I've always liked Hemsky's game and at the price they got him for I'm really happy. This is a very skilled guy who might start lighting it up again now that he's out of the Edmonton gong show.

You got a steal in Alex Grant - he has 2 shots and 2 goals in the NHL this year.

I saw that!!!:laugh3:

Seriously though, what kind of player is this guy? Is he NHL calibre?

Andre Petersson is a highly skilled but undersized winger. Up until today he probably had the best release in the entire Sens organization. Very boom bust. Could be become a good NHL scorer but will likely be playing in Europe in a few years.

You know the teams situation better than I do, and they're certainly still a contender. No doubt about that.

Bob Murray said he put his two firsts and two seconds in play. Said he was left "confused" about deal that didn't get done, i.e. Kesler.

Pretty convinced that either the ownership didn't want him moved, or this was just testing the waters for the draft.

I dont think they can go full rebuild with sedins on the books ... Young up and coming top 6 players that could contribute now, in a couple years and a draft pick is what they wanted to do

the return for luongo was the best we were going to get for a 8 year contract on a 35 year old player. a 3rd line centre who I believe can score 20 goals and a top prospect goalie that was in a shit goalie team is very good. if luongo retires before 40 we are kinda screwed with cap due to the CBA rules.

not trading Kesler is bad and its good. bad because he is injury prone and is one injury away in the next 20 games that will diminish his value signficantly. bad because also at seasons end the teams that lined up for him will have more time to wait for the canucks to panic and not do what they did with luongo. they will also miss out on an extra playoffs with kesler. his contract expires in 2 years after this. we would get more if we traded him now so someone had him for 3 years locked and healthy now. I dont want to give him away for nothing either, Sutter which was the player rumoured to be coming back to the canucks from the pens is a better Matthias who we got for Luongo, but not by a ton maybe 30 to 40% better, do you really want that for kesler? I dont.

I give Gillis a C++ for the luongo trade and a C+ for NOT trading kesler but if the names come out and they are good god help him. this off season will be the biggest in canucks history. there will be no comparison how important it will be to the development of the franchise, the sedins need to heal as does burrows. I dont see another season like this for either of those 3. if we do buy out central.

today sucked but it could have been worse tomorrow for the canucks. now just miss the playoffs get a decent pick and see what we can do at the draft

You bring up a valid point Matty.

B for Lou trade. Gillis and crew were putting around the ringer. Good to see him go to a team the at appricates them

A for NOT Trading Kes. If he doesn't get injured. Will be a big Player at the NHL Draft which means more picks, which means brighter future

At least your team has hope. The only hope the Isles will come when Wang sells the team. Right now I just don't see any light at the end of the tunnel. In fact if there's a light it's an oncoming train.

Confucius say excitement only possible when Wang go soft.
