Over 2M per year for a guy who's been up & down between the NHL & the AHL so many times it's been hard to keep track? The price for defenseman is crazy.

It's a steal of a deal considering what Kyle Quincey is making...

I liked what I saw from him in the playoffs and if you believe he will continue to progress then the deal will be a steal by years 3-4

I hated Ericsson's deal at first but he has drastically improved his game

Good example.

The Wings are very confident in their ability to develop players. And they should be.

They're betting on Kindl being a $4-4.5M player by years 3 and 4.

I will be shocked if he becomes that kind of player. We aren't talking about a prospect here. He's already 26. This is the prime of his hockey career.

Except that with the Wings, people only hit their prime in their mid 40s.

All joking aside, it's a rare thing for someone to BE on the team before they are 26.

That's just how the Wings Org. rolls. And it rolls well.

Prime years for defensemen are about 29-34.

Right now it's about market value but by years 3 and 4 this could be a bargain. I think the wings are hoping that he develops into powerplay qb as he seems to be one of the rare wings Dman who can actually get a point shot to the net without getting the shot blocked

I think this is a pretty sound contract. manageable cap hit and there always is a demand for defensemen. He's taken huge strides from where he was 2 years ago. Thought he had a very good year and I think he'll progress a little further yet. Anyways, I don't think this contract will be in the way of anything anytime soon.
