He said that Ferreiro and possibly Wingels would get a chance to fill Havlats spot.... But his most interesting comment was how this team would not really be set until the trade deadline.
Translation......I'm gonnna get another forward...
Ruutu would be my choice.....

Ruutu will be a good addition. However, I think the second line needs a setup man.

Clowe is the setup guy for the 2nd line. The top six needs someone who is physical and can score goals. The bottom six needs a PK specialist. Perferably someone with good to great speed who also throws a lot of hits.

Dreger reporting on the NHL network that Dougie is shopping Niitty and a dman.

Not a big surprise on what Wilson is offering up but if a dman that's currently on the roster is included it would seem to indicate he's looking for a higher end scoring line winger more then a 2nd/3rd line tweener or a rental player.

Which Dman & Nitty would be able to get a high end scoring winger?

I figured Nitty didn't have a ton of value. If they did I would think that Nabby would get more offers.

If I had to guess I'd say Demers. His age, contract, and skillset hold the most trade value of any of the dmen that might be available. Murray would be 2nd on the list IMO.

Niitty holds some value to fringe PO teams. Nabokov has a NMC and is looking to be a starter somewhere. Niitty is a 1b/quality back-up goalie which may hold a lot more appeal to teams.

Hmm.. The problem is, I don't want Demers or Murray gone...

Can't he trade worthless shit like White away instead? Oh wait, who would want that? :L

I never thought I'd say this after the last 2 seasons.....but I'd be okay with Murray being traded over Demers. Murray has looked old and slow this season and the Sharks have enough trouble with fast forwards as it is. Demers still provides a physical element (though not close to Murrays level), he can skate very well, he can make an outlet pass.

I love Douglass, but he's becoming more and more expendable in my eyes/humble opinion. If Vandemeer can keep up his solid play, I think he could be a decent replacement for Murray.

I cant see the same team trading for both niity and demers. Niity is a pending UFA and will only help this year. Only a team like ottawa or possibly tampa that has been struggling in net but is in the PO hunt would want him.

demers is a rebuilding chip. A young dmen with a high cieling.

I wonder if it wont be a 3-way deal... niity for a 3rd rounder and demers+3rd for a legit top 9 forward. The one thing I dont want is demers for a top 9 F who will be gone next year. I dont think trading demers for a rental is a good idea. he is too valuable a player to just dump like that with a very good value salary next year too.

Jussi Jokinen could work quite nicely.

I agree Rules. I think either Cmon or Filo mentioned before that it would probably have to be 2 different deals.
1 deal for Niitty to a contender. That would clear cap space and get a later round pick.
The second deal with a team probably out of the playoff race, like Carolina, for Ruutu or Jokinen.

Yeah, I know what you mean.

Also, between Murray/Demers, you gotta figure that Murray has the *lower* trade value, right? (for the same reasons you mentioned... he's slower, older, etc. while Demers is young, has "potential", etc.)

So, selfishly, I'm still hoping that of the two, Demers is traded since a) I still consider him a big(ger) liability out there, b) he'll bring back more in a trade and c) I like Murray. :p

Dreger said the Sharks are shopping Niitty and a dman so he didn't specify that Wilson was trying to package them together.

However, if Wilson is trying to package them together there is one glaringly obvious team out there who is in need of both goaltending help and a defensive dman and that's Washington. There's not much on the Caps that's of intrest to the Sharks IMO but there were reports from reputable sources this offseason that Wilson was trying to aquire Alex Semin. (Ugh, I just threw up a little) With Havlat on LTIR and the combinded salary of Niitty and Murray there is more than enough room to fit Semin's contract.

Anaheim has hopes of getting back into the PO hut and is also in need of goaltending and defensive help. Being division rivals means it's likely nothing substantial will happen between the two teams.

If it's a combo package of Nitty dman, I think the Lightning also make a good trading partner. With Roloson playing like crap, Ohlund out for who knows how long, and the team's familiarity with Nitty, something might work out.

Murray + Nitty FOR Downie or Purcell?

I might take a flyer on Mike Knuble from WAS. Pending UFA with familiarity with Jumbo (actually not sure they played on the same line in BOS). I know he's old, but he's a big bodied forward with scoring touch. His stock should be extremely low right now.

Not sure what it would take to get either Downie or Purcell. Then again, I'm not particularly interested in either. Neither of them get a lot of time on the PK and Downie is horrid in his own zone and takes stupid penalties (although most of this is from reputation, not my own eyes). Purcell wouldn't be horrible, but he doesn't score enough to make up for his lack of physicality, or defensive prowess.

I'd go after Jokinen from Carolina. He was groomed in a defensively minded Dallas organization, he's got 20pts and a +/- 0 on a bad team (even though I don't like +/- all that much), he's a natural winger (as we have too many Centers already and Ruutu is a center), and he's signed for next season too at a reasonable cap hit. Or if DWil really wanted to hit a home run (but keep on giving up more assets :(), he could possibly package Braun and a 1st Round draft choice for both Jokinen and Ruutu.....though I'm not sure if that would get it done.

Yes, Knuble-Thornton-Murray was a very good line for awhile in Boston.

Yeah, Downie and Purcell do not PK. But with a package like Murray + Nitty, I don't think much comes back. It would pain me to see Demers or Braun get shipped off which is why I want to avoid that. Jussi would be sweet for all the reason's you mentioned. Mostly, his nice contract that keeps him signed for another 2 years. If I'm CAR and about to send Jussi to the Sharks, Demers must be coming back at the very least. Let's go big:

Demers + 2nd rounder + mid D prospect FOR Jussi + Gleason (pending UFA).

Gleason allows the Sharks to maintain their defensive depth for at least this season.

Boyle/Vlasic
Burns/Gleason
Braun/White
Vandy

Forgot Murray
