No. They need to require a P5 team to have beaten 5 P5 teams in
the season to be bowl eligible. That is the only thing that will lead
to better OOC scheduling.

To be Bowl Eligible this year, under that rule...Auburn would have
to beat Alabama, or they stay home.

I want to watch the "game"...not the "teams." I want to watch
good football being played. I can't get that with 6-6 P5 teams
loaded with rosters of underachieving thugs.
Adding bowls dos not increase quality bowl games. And if anything would only slightly increase OOC. The current overloaded 6 win bowl games decrease OOC. I do agree their should be a stronger criteria for Bowl eligibility. Far too many teams soften their schedules just to pad wins and obtain bowl eligibility.

The play off selection system also promotes softer OOC schedules by nature. And will only continue to add to more meaningless OOC's by the presidents that have been set. If we want a true champion and stronger OOC schedules. This is the best format I've seen to promote both. Its thorough right down to fail safes and elevating regular season scheduling standards

6 team playoff with 5 autobids CC and 1 WC but there are some rules.

1.Every P5 team plays 10 P5 games and 2 patsy G5/FCS games. The committee can only use P5 games to evaluate a team.

2. If you have more than 2 losses and win your conference you lose your autobid. That spot becomes an extra WC spot.

As you said 64 eligible. 22 in need of 1 win. but there are also 12 teams that can still get to 6 that have 4 wins and have at least 2 games. I was wrong about 3 win teams. it looks like all of them only have 2 left.
Of the 12 Air force and Wyoming play each other so only the winner of that game will have a shot at 6.
a few others play eachother like 5-5 Baylor who has 2 shots who could eliminate 4-6 TCU with a win but a loss means they have to beat 5-5 TT. TT plays Kansas State first and could eliminate them with a win but a loss keeps them alive to get to 6 while then game with Baylor could become an elimnation game.

so many scenarios that could play out that would leave more than just as many as 10

I understand that. Nothing to say that all the 5 win teams make
it in. Some have some tough games remaining. But, the odds
are very good we'll have more than 78 eligible, which is the point of the thread.

The NCAA a few years ago, put a moratorium on adding new bowl
gams because they didn't have enough 6-win teams. This will be the second straight season where we've had more than 78. which
might give the NCAA impetus to start up new Bowl Games.

Sure you can.

The 2016 St Petersburg Bowl matching up a 5 win Mississippi State team against a 6 win Miami U team was a far better game to watch for the average fan than the Fiesta Bowl a week or so later where a 12 win Clemson destroyed an 11 win Ohio State.

I don't go out of my way to watch the minor bowls, but if I'm watching TV and there is one on I'm going to watch it. Most of the time these minor bowls are far more competitive than the bigger name bowls.

To me, not more than 25% - 30% of all college football teams should be rewarded with a bowl (or playoff) game. With 132 teams, somewhere between 33 and 40 teams should reap post-season rewards. Of course, you can't have an odd number of teams, so you either drop the bare minimum to 32 or raise it to 34. That would give us 16 to 20 bowl games & playoff spots to fill, and enough slots that every FBS conference would be able to put at least one team into a bowl. And teams that can't win more than 50% of their games should not be bowl eligible.

I've always been a fan of reducing the # of bowls. IMO I think 16-20 Bowl games is enough.
I agree with you...but I'm an old fart that believes such a reward as a bowl game should be "legitimately" earned.

And you have to remember that this group was raised with the "everyone gets a trophy" mentality. The bowls are just extending that mentality into college football.

How are 10 teams going to be sitting home Bowl eligible when a 5-7 team could get in?

I read that a while ago and surprised to see a 5-7 getting in.

That depends for that to happen it requires not enough teams being bowl eligible at 6-6. And it is decided by GPA

*Looks around for the useful rating*
Last time I remember this happening was 5-7 Nebraska in 2015. I believe they beat UCLA in that that bowl game. Cant remember the other 5-7 team they edged out on GPA. Think it was Tejas

I went back and looked it up. Nebraska 37 UCLA 29

Texas was the team they got in over die to GPA right? There may have been another 5-7 team that failed the GPA requirements.Your memory would be better than mine on this scenario

The Huskers have the highest APR (985) among the 5-7 teams, followed by Missouri (976), Kansas State (976), Minnesota (975), San Jose State (975), Illinois (973) and Rice (973).
