Seriously. I remember the fall out from the Pens/Isles mess two years ago. Was peeved because the biggest suspension came from a guy leaving the bench to fight...but accepted the "it's automatic, right there in black and white."

All that said, 2 is what the infraction is actually worthy of. Shaw's hit wasn't a good one, and the didn't really do too much to him. Still, you can't have your cake and eat it too with the ruling, but they're going off of the whole "meh, close enough to a line change".

I had always assumed that the Fines were your first offense warning and any following event will be repeat offense. Pisses me off that they are essentially saying that fining someone means jack shit. Its the equivalent of a parking ticket for the average person.

You get into a dangerous cycle there. "Well, this is your first time, so it's just a fine." "Well, you've never been suspended, so it's just a fine." "Well, you've only been fined, not suspended, so it's only 2 regardless that an automatic rule exists."
