All she really does is use Google Sheets, Google Docs, and bullshit around on Facebook and check her Gmail.

    Wouldn't a Chromebook be sufficient?

I am guessing they are so cheap because you are not paying for a copy of Windows, smaller HD (cloud based storage with Google), no function keys etc.

Yes, a Chromebook would be not only sufficient, but ideal for that usage.

Yes, they are pretty decent and very cheap. They are apps based so you can't get all the features that you would on a normal PC.

I have one and only because it was $200 and as a techie I wanted to see and play around with the google interface. It's not a bad computer at all.

In her case simpler is better.. my understanding is that she logs into her google account, and everything is right there and not a lot can go wrong.

I am so fed up with technology and fixing everything... family thinks I actually understand computers when all I do is google a solution on my phone LOL>

I recently set up my Galaxy Tab A with a full function Bluetooth keyboard and case. The tablet is a full function office tab with Microsoft Office 365, 128G memory and a Micro USB port. Super small, keyboard types flawlessly and very fast. I like it!!!

Go this route. Get an iPad or whatever your full size tablet of choice is and set it up with a keyboard. It will cost a little more, but will be worth it.

It’s been a couple years so maybe they’re better now, but my experience across a couple brands of chromebooks is they’re cheaply built and super fragile.

The tablet itself will be the driving cost. The case and keyboard can be had on Amazon for very little $$$$

    I disagree with this.
I bought a tablet and a case with a keyboard that same size. I nearly never used it. small keyboard is OK, but for the price, go for a big display and bigger keyboard.

If you want to go small, here is a refurb Samsung for $89.

Don't think I would ever buy a refurb laptop. Most are rogue units that will give you no end of problems.

That is not true at all. In fact, most were just gift returns.

    facts do not.

Many of the "refurbs" are office leases or ones that had faulty components that were replaced and the machines are now 100% functional. They don't put faulty components back into the hands of users, but it saves them a ton of money if they can purchase a "broken" machine on the cheap, replace the HDD, run it through a battery of tests and sell it at a profit.

My neighbor gave me his old laptop FOR FREE because it wouldn't boot anymore. I stuck an extra SSD I had from an old MacBook I was recycling and it now runs like a champ.
