Everyone says the Colts sucked for Luck, even though I watched all the games and know better. That team just plain sucked. Probably would have had a lot of trouble with Notre Dame.

Still, I hate it that a team as talented as Houston's got all those high draft picks. They were already enormously talented at most positions and it is very hard to explain a collapse like that unless they are really a bunch of pussies.

If these guys can find someone reliable to play pitch and catch, those predicting only 6 wins this season are going to look pretty sick. I hate it these fegs are in our division. Their potential is very scary.

That certainly seems to be the biggest question. As much talent as this team has it's kind of surprising that they didn't do more than acquire Fitpatrick in order to address the QB position. Is he better than Schaub or even Keenum? Add to that Andre Johnson's holdout and the outlook for the Texans, particularly on offense, seems pretty unclear.

If Alex Smith had his concussion in 2013 instead of 2012, I think he would have gone to Houston and either righted the ship like he did in KC for a new guy in 2015/16 or played the part you guys are talking about. In KC, I think he has a chance to be there for awhile because of Reid's system. Not sure about a Houston but he would be solid and reliable for someone to be groomed, at least.

Yeah I saw some power rankings that had Houston dead last. I laughed and didn't bother reading any of the other rankings it had. I'm pretty sure Houston was in the top ten for team offense and defense last season, and managed to do that with one of the toughest schedules last year. By comparison, this season's schedule looks to be very team friendly. Houston should be a 8+ win team

if it makes you feel any better, they ended up draft Clowney who I feel is gonna be a giant bust. he has diva-with-motivation-issues written all over him.

They are definitely a talented team but still lacking in some of the more important positions on offense. Quarterback obviously is a huge hole but I would say RB as well in Foster is back but is he really back to the player he was before or has this back injury caused him to lose a step? Losing Ben Tate I think will end up being a bigger deal than the Texans will want to admit. So really offensively right now if you double Andre Johnson every play you should be able to contain that offense pretty well. Defensively they should be very good.

I'm still not 100% sold on Clowney being a dominant player next to Watt yet...gotta see it...Fitz is a decent QB, but he's playing at ceiling height right now...will that be enough? IDK.

HOU still has some questions, but I think they will rebound and be a 10 win type team.

I wasn't sold on him until he went to the Texans. There honestly was no better place for him to go at this point. Watt is a no nonsense kind of player that goes 100% on every play and from what I have seen expects that from all of those around him. I think he will work to bring the best out of Clowney. Throw in Clowney for once in his career is not the biggest name on a team and isn't even the best player on the defense. He has never experienced that so I could see that being something that motivates him to actually work.

I dont know if Clowney will work hard enough to dominate, but if he does, hell be scary next to Watt and Cushing.

Texans have some solid potential in upcoming years, but they got two rookies who will likely start (I'm assuming Nix will start?) on a 3-4 D which is tough to play. That said Clowney behind Watt. I mean that's giving the 3-4 OLB a free pass. He'll be matched up against guards that don't get eaten alive by Watt and the only thing left is a TE or RB? If he can't beat either of those then fail.

That said, they took a pretty big step back on offense this year IMO. No Tate is going to hurt and Johnson appears just kind of 'done' with Houston. Hopkins should be back which will help but again time will tell.

That said, Houston had to go against the vaunted NFC West last year so getting rid of that should help. They looked like SBOWL contenders until Seattle snatched a WTF victory after Houston dominated the first half. I felt that whole debacle took some wind out of their sails and ripped the soul out of Schaub. And no, it's not because I'm a Hawks fan. It just happened to be Seattle that did that (another team could've done that as well - Any Given Sunday).

If the Texans can stay healthy (Cushing/Foster/QB/Johnson) they could be a playoff team (WC likely) in a pretty lackluster AFC at the moment. I think the Texans are in a slight rebuild mode though and while they haven't taken a COMPLETE step back to FULL REBUILD they are close. It'll take another 2-3 years before they legitimately contend IMO. Legitimately content = sniffing SBOWL or flat out SBOWL front runners for their conference.

All those points you bring out are true...but the one that makes me think he will not fulfill his potential in HOU is in bold...you've been the biggest, best player on the team at every level and never really had to go 110%.

How do you do it now? I'm sure Watt will be barking at him, pushing him as you say, but you're asking for a 180 here...he will make some plays, but I have to wait and see about dominance.

That's the other issue...Clowney clearly has shown the athletic ability to play OLB in a 3-4 scheme, but it's a different position from the 4-3 DE spot he played in college...he will be thinking out there a good bit of the year like any other rookie starting. At least Nix will be comfortable with the position...if he can man up at this level he might have as much impact as Clowney.

So the Colts didn't intentionally tank for Luck but the Texans did for Clowney who was not even a consensus #1 pick and certainly not a need position for their team? I think that you are playing a double-standard.

Look at what happened to them. They were 2-0 and riding high, and then got beaten up badly by the defending champ Ravens and half the NFCW in SF and Stl. Throw a ego deflating close loss to Seattle in the middle of that. They are then reeling at 2-4 but looking still looking to right the ship. What followed was 7 losses in a row of 1 score or less (I am defining 7 points as one score or less) and 4 of those losses were by 4 points or less. They were outscored by a total of 152 points.

During the Colts 2011 season they had 5 losses of 1 score or less, and 3 of those losses were by 4 points or less. They were outscored by a total of 187 points.

So how come in your mind the Texans intentionally tanked but the Colts did not??

Yeah was wondering that same thing here jakedog56. Pretty sure I and the Texans both would rather have Andrew Luck than Clowney at this point. If I was going to tank a season it would be for a franchise quarterback not a pass rusher. The Texans had probably the worst quarterback play in the league and it showed up on the scoreboard. This is why a quarterback can really make or break your season. This is why when Manning went down we saw such a dramatic change in the Colts from Super Bowl contender to bottom of the barrel type team. A great quarterback can make that much difference unless you have a ridiculous defense like that of the 2000 Ravens. Then it doesn't really matter what quarterback you have.

Also ATL I definitely see what you are saying. It really could go either way though. Sometimes when a guy is finally presented with a challenge he rises up to that challenge. Other times when they have been so used to things being handed to them then yeah they crumble in that kind of situation. I just like Watt to be a guy that brings him along side and pushing him to rise up to the challenge. Watt just seems like that kind of guy to me. Don't know why.

It wasn't because of tanking. It was ....
