That's pretty surprising!

And I'm gonna guess it doesn't speak well to overall jersey sales?

All I know is he is a goalie that won a cup on a pretty damn good team and frankly I don't give a flying fuck what his political views are.

I watch hockey because I love the game, If you can name the political affiliation of more than .0000001% of the players than your watching the sport for the wrong reason. Go and start one of those bobble head political talk shows.

I FUCKING hate mixing athletes, actors or whatever with politics, It drives me fucking insane.

There being many retired New Englanders living in Florida might have something to do with it.
And with the Panther's decision to sign TT to a contract.

Totally agree. It drives me doubly insane when the players/actors/whatever do it themselves.

Honest question: what about something like the NHL's You Can Play campaign?

I consider that expounding a political position, but most of us have applauded the league for the campaign.

I don't think it's really political. They're just saying don't bully someone for their sexual orientation. I don't think there are too many people that advocate the bullying of homosexuals anymore. It's a position I respect and understand.

I only hate when athletes or actors speak out politically if I disagree with them. ;)

I think thats the way a lot of people feel, I dont necessarily mean people here. Just people in general. If an actor/athlete feels strongly about something and they feel its important to speak out about it, why should it bother anyone? Some feel its their duty to take a stance on things.

I don't mind TT having his political views. I just don't think he should've skipped out on the White House visit. That wasn't really about Obama, it was about the Bruins. Instead, it became about TT. Whatever, I'm sure Bruin fans forgive him (after all, he did lead them to their 1st Cup in 39 years), but I'm sure there have been several athletes who disagreed with the policies of our presidents and made the White House visit anyways. Mario Lemieux for instance is a registered Republican and a Canadian, he owes nothing to Obama, but he went to the White House, smiled, shook the President's hand, & presented him with a jersey, like a professional.

What bothers me is it is there right to express their opinion that's fine. There are actors, singers, athletes and other performers that do it all the time. It just drives me nuts that when thy do it fans freak out if they don't agree with them. There are actors and singers that I don't agree with politically but that doesn't mean I'm not going to stop seeing them perform because of it or even take the more childish approach and make fun of them. Lets say I disagree with a singer or group about their politics, as long as when I go to see them they do their show and keep the politics out of it fine, after all I don't go to a concert to hear their politics but to hear their music.

Some people just go overboard because they hear that <insert name> doesn't agree with them so all of a sudden that person sucks. People didn't like Bush and didn't attend a function he was at, fine. Same goes for Obama if they don't want to go fine. It's their prerogative.

I don't want to get political over this but I think the fans make more out of it then they should.

I'm not trying to offend anyone it's just my opinion. Shit I've known people that liked a performer then found out they were far right or left and then they hated them for it. It just seems kind of stupid to me you either like someone for what the do or you don't. If you base liking them because of their political beliefs and not their talent I think you have a problem.

Didn't plenty of athletes skip out on WH visits when Dubya was in office? It's such a non issue as far as I'm concerned, who gives a fuck?
