A 16 car crash results in a fairly quick caution. A 6 car wreck where all cars drove away brought out a red flag.
Personally, and I know I'm in the minority, I like fuel mileage races. It adds a little drama to the race, and I think it's cool when a team that doesn't have a first place car can steal a win via pit strategy.
But a Daytona 500 coming down to fuel mileage?
Has that happened since a lapped Rick Mast pushed Harry Gant's out of gas car passed the finish line?
I don't mind them either. You're crossing races. The Gant win you're referring to was the 1991 Winston 500 at Talladega. The last Daytona 500 that I can think of that came down to fuel mileage was DW's win in 1989.
That was just a normal spin.
But I have to say, I strongly prefer a wreck fest to the single file Daytona 500's we've had thee last few years where passing is nearly impossible.
My bad. Like I said, it was before my time and tried to go from memory from these "best ever" and "most controversial" shows.
No problem. I was a kid back then and a big Earnhardt fan, so those were good years.
