There were 40 games in weeks zero & one between FCS & FBS teams. The FCS teams were 1-39 in those games, with another going into triple-overtime before the FBS team pulled it out. 10 other games were decided by one score or less.

Teams that lost to FCS teams:
Western Kentucky 28-35 to Central Arkansas

Teams that went into OT to beat an FCS team:
Iowa St. 29-26 (3 OT) vs Northern Iowa

Teams that beat an FCS team by 8 points or less:
UConn 24-21 vs Wagner
UAB 24-19 vs Alabama St.
Minnesota 28-21 vs South Dakota St.
Kansas 24-17 vs Indiana St.
West Virginia 20-13 vs James Madison
Arkansas 20-13 vs Portland St.
New Mexico 39-31 vs Sam Houston St.
Old Dominion 24-21 vs Norfolk St.
UTEP 36-34 vs Houston Baptist
San Diego St. 6-0 vs Weber St.

Conference USA is the only league to post a loss vs FCS competition so far. CUSA also has teams with 5-point, 3-point & 2-point wins.

The Big 12 has the lone OT win. It also has two teams with 7-point wins.

The MWC has an 8-point & 6-point winner.

The AAC has a 3-point winner.

The Big 10 & SEC each have a 7-point winner.

No other leagues played games that close vs FCS competition.

Just for the record:

The FCS was 5-0 vs NAIA schools, with no close games;
2-0 vs Division II schools, with one close win (Alabama A&M over Morehouse 35-30);
and 1-0 vs National Christian College Athletic Association teams, with no close wins.

I was there, and I was amazingly calm throughout. The only time I really puckered up was when ISU had to kick the tieing FG in the last minute to send the game to OT: (2001 I-Bowl PTSD flashbacks). Besides that, for the most part, I never felt like ISU would lose. Both UNI TDs were on fluke plays that were reviewed and "stood" but not "confirmed": a fumble returned for a TD in the 4th and a trapped TD pass in the corner of the end-zone after a mad scramble by the QB in the 2nd OT. Besides that, the Panthers had 4 FGs: 2 long ones in regulations and 2 in the OT sessions. I actually had a good time and enjoyed the game! Well, at least, that is my story, and I'm sticking to it!
