Good point on KD.

But Kobe had Artest, Gasol and Fisher in his only post Shaq ‘ship.
He had 2 post-Shaq 'ships.

Kobe had less help than MJ winning those 2 titles.

Good point. I don’t think he is quite the face that LeBron is, but it is close. He has unbelievable shooting ability with some amazing highlight shots. So maybe it is just highlight-able scoring plays.
But I think if you ask in another 20 years Curry will be remembered as a great shooter that led a great team but LeBron will be remembered as the face of the league.
Well 'face of the league' if that's something people remember, Steph is every bit that as LeBron. What he isn't is best player of this generation...that's LeBron. There are 3 players in the GOAT conversation, Steph isn't one. The thread isn't about that though

To me face of the league is someone that defines that era. So, Curry fits as he defines the three point era, more so than LeBRon for that category.

Is Luka going to 'define' the next era? Sounds like someone who has to be in the GOAT conversation

To me 'face of the league' is who even your grandmother has heard of, who gets the commercials, who drives ratings. LeBron and Curry are no longer in the MVP convo but they are still the 2 drivers of ratings and the most famous NBA players. Luka might become that when those 2 are gone, or maybe Wemby will.

Luka has pretty much everything you need for being the face of the NBA.

Obviously a top 3 player and at times the best in the league.
Cocky and a shit talker but humble at the same time.
He can carry a team just like Bron and MJ.

While some people didn't like him at times I think he has most of the league on his side after this trade. Kinda in a way feeling sorry for him. He gave everything to the franchise and they blindside him.

He didn't give 'everything' though. Dallas is overstating this but clearly Luka was not as dedicated to the sport as say LeBron or Kobe.

I still predict a gap, and the next guy isn't here yet. They'll try to force one, but it really usually happens organically. Curry and Bron are still around and I still don't think we're ready for a Euro to be face of the league.

To be fair, the first 3 title teams weren't as strong as the last 3...but he still didn't 'do it alone'
Craig Hodges is historically forgotten but was a good player and they had serviceable centers. And let's not forget one of the best coaches ever and a system no one had figured out yet.

Yeah I tend to agree it will be tough for a foreigner to have that same level of fame, we'll see. You're right that the league might not have a 'face' when those 2 are gone.

Still, 1996-98 > 1991-1993, obviously. That 1996 team was among the GOATs (along with 2017 Warriors, 1986 Celtics, 1985 Lakers)

actually, Kobe has TWO post-Shaq championships. The first one, from 2008-09, was without Artest, who didn't join the team until the following year.
