Watched some tape on this kid tonight. Really good on back shoulder throws and sets them up well. Leaves some room between himself and the sideline so he can start to turn and move toward the side line so he can separate. There weren't so many jump balls as he has a knack for leaving room and then creating space.

Very late hands, he waits until the last second to reach for the ball or put his hands up to catch it. Technique that is not always easy to teach and keeps the DB from knowing the ball is coming until the last second. Hand fights well and comes out of that at the last second too to reach out for the ball.

Trust me, us Redskins fans will love this guy! He does not quit on the ball no matter where it is thrown.

Love for me because the value of the pick. A year ago he was a Heisman Candidate. A full recovery and this kid could be a huge asset for Jay Gruden's offense.

Wow the more I look at it, the more I agree this looks like a very good draft.

I voted McLaurin. High character guy with the skill set the skins desperately lacked. I also have a hunch about this guy

After a lackluster performance in 2018 for the Washington Redskins offense, they are making changes. The team announced Tuesday passing game coordinator Kevin O’Connell has been promoted to offensive coordinator.

O’Connell, who just 33 years of age, joined the Redskins in 2017 as the quarterbacks coach. He had the passing game coordinator title added in 2018. O’Connell was also the quarterbacks coach with the Cleveland Browns and San Francisco 49ers before coming to Washington.

Head coach Jay Gruden took over play-calling duties while Matt Cavanaugh was pegged the offensive coordinator after Sean McVay left his role as offensive coordinator to become the head coach of the Los Angeles Rams in 2017. Washington’s offense peaked to third in the NFL in McVay’s final season. They dropped to 16th in 2017 with an array of injuries and 28th last season.

Last season, the drop-off from Kirk Cousins to Alex Smith as quarterback was staggering. The big plays down field occurred far less. Following injuries to Smith and backup quarterback Colt McCoy, O’Connell called plays while Mark Sanchez was under center due to the familiarity between both as former teammates with the New York Jets.

O’Connell spent six seasons in the NFL, mostly as a backup quarterback before going into coaching in 2015.

Meanwhile, Cavanaugh will be the team’s offensive assistant.

According to John Keim of ESPN.com, other teams had inquired about O’Connell for offensive coordinator. Translation, Washington could have been worried about losing another young coach much like McVay.

Nonetheless, it will be interesting to see what type of changes to the offense will be visible in 2019. It appears, Smith won’t return from his broken leg next season. And it’s unclear if Gruden or O’Connell will call plays.

Interesting poll. I believe most fans here are happy with the selection of Haskins as the 15th pick but …. Sweat wins the poll in a landslide. I think he has the potential to have the most impact his first year. Haskins was tied for 4th.

Gruden is still the head coach. He decides what will and won't happen. Yes O'Connell is the OC but unless they made Gruden a figure head only and I do not believe that then O'Connell will do what Gruden wants.

coach you give out a lot of info that you can' substantiate. You do NOT know who is calling the plays. You do NOT know how much power the FO gave O'Connell. You are CORRECT in that they didn't want to lose him so they made him OC. Lets go with what we know and lets not make shit up unless we know for sure. :suds:

Read between the lines so you give a guy a O.C job but he is not allowed to call plays to keep him from not going to ucla to call the plays .. Now your right there iss nothing Offical or statement that says Connell will call the plays or Gruden but it's appear in the fear of losing him to ucla skins gave him some power right? Why stay to be non play caller O.C

Well regardless of the situation you would think that this would be a perfect time to solve what has been a major issue for this team for years - Clock Mgmt. They now have a new QB (regardless of who starts), new coaches calling at least some of the shots & new personnel all over the place. Time to get this issue fixed. Minimize the wasted TOs, penalties & sloppy plays that are all related to poor clock mgmt. This is very fixable.

coach, O'Connell will probably call the plays. You said he had been given a lot of power. He was promoted to OC. That's cool. Lets see what happens. What power does he have other than his promotion?

We can all try to read between the lines coach. No argument there. I just wanted to know who gave him a lot of power and what is that power?

The future rests on the play of the QB so he's naturally my pick as no other pick will have as big of an impact. But to be truthful I like all of them. Obviously love having a potential game changing edge rusher is huge but I also liked the Love pick and have no idea why it's being criticized.
