This article got me thinking abou it.
Rangers planning accordingly for rest of season | texasrangers.com: News

What do you guys think we're going to do with our rotation. As of now CJ Wilson would be our game 2 pitcher if he pitches against the Angels in game one unless he pitches on 3 days rest. If we've already clinched the division, which I believe we will have, would you consider pitching CJ 3 innings just to get some work in and then have him pitch game 1? Or would it be better to pitch him 3-4 innings on short rest against the Mariners so he can pitch on full rest game 1? I think either way is fine as long as he's not pitching many innings. Just trying to keep him sharp for the playoffs without burning him up like the Angels did.

If CJ is 1 and Holland is 2 then I'd like to flip them for the M's and Angels games. That way Holland isn't pitching on his normal schedule. Unless they think an extra day off for Holland is good.

Another thing to think about is if Holland goes game 1 and wins then it looks really good for game 2 with CJ pitching.

What are your thoughts?

I think they'll flip Wilson to an earlier start once the division is clinched so that he can pitch game 1 of the ALDS, probably get in about 5 innings, an extra day for Holland probably wouldn't be a bad idea either

Wash was quoted in the DMN today saying that if they clinch early he will rest players regardless of the HFA scenario. I'd guess he would also take advantage and work his rotation to maximum advantage for the playoffs. Why not?

Id go with Harrison. We usually don't hit well vs aces so it might be a waste to start CJ or Holland in game 1. The way Harrison is pitching and the way were hitting, we could very well win that game. And if we lose, it hurts a lot less knowing you still have our top 2 coming up. You definitely don't want to be tied or down a game with Lewis or Ogando pitching.

so you would basically concede game 1 by putting our # 3 or #4 out there against their ace?

Not at all, that's a very winnable match-up against anybody. All 5 of our pitchers can beat anybody when they're on.

right now we're on schedule to meet the Yankees in the ALDS with the 1st 2 games in NY against Sabbathia & Nova. Sabbathia is 2-0 against us but we've lit him up this season for an ERA of 5.12. Nova is 2-1 against us but with a 4.67 ERA. i'd rather put CJ & Holland or Holland & CJ out there against them

Ogando held his own against CC earlier this year. I believe it was a no decision for both of them. The long ball was the only thing that hurt him in that game. I believe it was against NYY that Harrison pitched his game where he forced them into 6 DP's.

against the Yankees:

CJ 0-0 2.25

Holland 0-2 8.62

MH 1-1 1.93

AO 0-1 2.25

but let's look at their September's:

CJ 0.92

DH 1.63

MH 2.41

AO 2.25

CL 7.16

i would go Holland (based on his September) game 1, CJ game 2 and Harrison game 3

Dutchy also pitched well in relief in the ALCS. Honestly I'm good with any order as long as Lewis or Feldman aren't in the 1-4 spot.

This is what I am thinking. :playball:

with Lewis' September (7.16 ERA), i would prefer that Lewis doesn't even see the inside of the bullpen but Wash will carry him on the ALDS roster and Feldman is not much better (6.00 ERA in September)
