From Whitner himself on twitter: Well tweeps they fined me 21k for that hit....

And from Cam Inman: Donte Whitner plans to appeal 21K fine immediately. Says it's his 1st offense. "The game is changing ... Maybe we should put flags on"

I thought that was a BS foul. I hope he wins his appeal.

Unless the defender is clearly targeting the head or launching into a player head first it should never be a foul. If the offensive player moves into a position to take a shot to the head then that is them not defending themselves. It should never be the defenders responsibility to protect the player they are about to hit as long as the hit they are aiming for would be legal.

The refs this year are throwing out way to many defenseless receiver flags that are uncalled for.

I thought Whitner the last two weeks have had BS fouls on him... Still think he is over rated but I thought both were not penalty worthy. Though I guess you can say he was a defenseless receiver but the objective of defense is to prevent the WR from catching the ball.

It looked like he purposely turned his back before he hit him to avoid the helmet hit. I'm surprised the ref didn't seee that.

Well sometimes the refs are great at what they do and sometimes they are not.

I am not nearly as surprised as I am the NFL didn't see it and not fine him, maybe even announce it was a bad call. His head kind of snaps back, ala Vernon Davis being hit by Chancellor, but the hit is clean.

Goldson has the most penalized hits of any player since 2010... he won't be getting many breaks I guess.

Wasn't Givens sort of falling down when Whitner hit him??

Players always appeal their fines, but this is the first time, maybe ever, I think he should. That shouldn't have even been a penalty much less a fine.

Whitner literally took one for the team there. He prevented a TD but it cost him $21K.

He hit him with his shoulder pads, there shouldn't have been a penalty.

This is EVERYTHING that is wrong with the new NFL. Seems like Goodell & Co are punishing current players for the lawsuits of former players. Makes me sick.

That's exactly what he's doing. When you get sued for $765 million dollars (with other lawsuits pending), you get a little paranoid about things that could give people a reason to sue you.

100% the fault of the assholes who sued the NFL.

So hitting someone in the head with your shoulder is illegal?? That is stupid.

I was at the game on the other side of the field so I didn't get a good look at the hit but it looked bad from where I was sitting. But Whitner turned his head to avoid the head to head contact and still gets a penalty and fined. Bullshit. Was he suppose to just let him get a TD???

i can see the leagues point, he made contact with the head, but whitner looks like he was trying to hold back from actually hitting him. if whitner ran through givens i don't think givens would know what planet he's on.
